What is an Early College High School? • A small school designed for students to earn a diploma and an Associate’s degree simultaneously • Improves high school graduation rates • Prepares all students for high-skill careers • Engages students in a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum • Greatly eases the transition from high school to college and enhances the chances for the completion of a four-year degree Collegiate Academy Basics… • Courses taught by GCISD high school teachers and TCC-NE professors • Collegiate Academy is a “stand alone” campus with its own teachers, leader, schedule, campus ID number, etc. • Transportation is provided (Buses pick up Collegiate Academy students from the four GCISD middle schools) • Lunch available through GCISD Nutrition Services • Students do not pay for tuition, fees or textbooks • Highly qualified teachers with demonstrated success providing accelerated instruction to at-risk students • Support structures: • college-going culture • personalized learning including tutoring, mentoring • extracurricular, and cultural activities Annual Costs for College • From http://www.collegeforalltexans.com • Includes Tuition & Fees, Books & Supplies, Room & Board, Travel and other costs • Texas A&M (Resident) $21,581 per year • UTA (Resident) $22,508 per year • UTA (minus Room & Board, Travel) $11,912 per year • University of Texas (Resident) $26,148 per year • University of Houston (Resident) $27,188 per year Where is Collegiate Academy? TCC Northeast Campus Hurst, Texas Collegiate Academy Students • Serves students in grades 9-12 • 100 students per grade • Will serve 400 students by the 2017/2018 school year. Accepts Freshmen only • Includes a focus on (but is not limited to): • Students underrepresented in higher education • Students open to a different kind of high school experience • First-Generation College Goers • Any student with a passion or desire to learn!
