PLAYBOOK
How to win with the new Observer®
communicating system
C O M M U N I C A T I N G
S Y S T E M
This playbook is a quick-reference guide to help you call the right play to give your customers a big home comfort win with most
applications of the Observer® communicating system. This playbook gives you easy access to four types of information.
FIRST, NEW WI-FI®1 PLAYS.This quick-start guide gives you two options for connecting the Observer wall control’s Wi-Fi
system to a homeowner’s Internet connection. This new feature will enable homeowners to access their home comfort
systems from certain smart phones, tablets or computers2.
• PLAY #W-1: SCREEN PASS – Pass control of the Observer system directly through the homeowner’s wireless
LAN/router and internet connection.
• PLAY #W-2: HAND OFF – If a homeowner has Internet access but no existing Wi-Fi network or a wireless network that is
not compatible with the Observer communicating wall control, an Observer wireless access point can hand off system
control to the homeowner’s Internet connection.
SECOND, THE BASIC PLAYS. Nine options for setting up a communicating system with the Observer wall control.
• PLAY #1: TWO-MINUTE DRILL – Set up a communicating furnace/fan coil with a two-stage communicating
outdoor unit.
• PLAY #2: STRAIGHT UPTHE MIDDLE – Set up a communicating furnace/fan coil with a single-stage
communicating outdoor unit.
1Wi-Fi is a registered trademark of Wi-Fi Alliance Corporation.

How to Win with a Complete Observer® Communicating System:
1. Requires just 4 wires between system components (only 2 wires from indoor to
outdoor with 2-stage condensers).*
2. TSTAT0201SCW self-configures the system upon initial startup.*
3. Outdoor unit includes OD Temp Sensor that communicates to stat across the 4-wire
connection (2-wire connection from indoor to outdoor for 2-stage condensers).*
4. Text based diagnostic messages.*
5. Constant fan speed options – low, medium & high.
6. Expanded dehumidification capability.
7. Onboard equipment options configurable from the wall control
(Example: Quiet Shift Heat Pump).*
8. Communication among all system components.
9. Easier zoning set-up.
