A: It depends Grant & Contract Process Board of Regents Rules and Regulations ◦ Any commitment or use of UTA facilities, equipment, or resources (faculty time) towards the performance of a grant or contract must be administered and controlled by UTA ◦ Only authorized officials assigned by the University President may commit the University to an external project: Proposal commitments and acceptance of awards PI’s, Chairs, and Deans do not have authority to submit (formally) or accept grants and contracts White papers, PI/Sponsor correspondences are not formal commitments and do not require GCS review or approval. GCS encourages this communication to develop relationships with sponsors So what does that mean? Do I or don’t I? A few things you can look for: Who is the applicant? ◦ If the applicant is the University – YES ◦ If the applicant is the Mentor/Dissertation Chair – Probably Yes ◦ If the applicant is you – Probably No Does the application require a signature from an authorized university representative? ◦ YES Does the application require cost sharing that the University will be providing? YES Will the award be made to the institution? YES Still have questions? Ford Scholar Award (Dissertation Award) in Honor of Robert M. Teeter The Gerald R. Ford Scholar Award in Honor of Robert M. Teeter is an annual award of $5000 given to a doctoral student to support dissertation research and writing on an aspect of the United States political process and public policy, broadly defined. The Selection Committee will consider research in any field related to the study of the United States political process and public policy, broadly defined, during the last half of the 20th century. Of special interest is the role and analysis of public opinion in that process. Doctoral students in Political Science, History, Journalism, Communications, Public Policy, Foreign Relations, or American Studies are encouraged to apply. Deadline: 4/10/2013 The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation Dissertation Fellowship Questions that interest the foundation concern violence and aggression in relation to social change, intergroup conflict, war, terrorism, crime, and family relationships, among other subjects. Dissertations with no relevance to understanding human violence and aggression will not be supported. These fellowships of $20,000 each are designed to contribute to the support of the doctoral candidate to enable him or her to complete the thesis in a timely manner and are only appropriate for students approaching the final year of their Ph.D. work. This fellowship is not for support of doctoral research. Deadline: Received by 2/1 APPAM PH.D. DISSERTATION AWARD (Post Dissertation) Purpose of Award: The Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) seeks to recognize emergent scholars in the field of public policy and management by presenting an award for the best Ph.D. dissertation in public policy and management. Nature of Award: Winners receive a cash award in the amount of $1,500 in addition to a plaque, recognition at the annual APPAM Fall Research Conference, and publication of an abstract in the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management. A separate grant covering travel costs to the fall conference also will be provided. The award winner, and two honorable mentions, will be offered the opportunity to present posters of their dissertations during the research conference. What is COS Pivot? Updating Basic Account Information To update basic information in your account you can click on “My account” next to your name from your Pivot home page. Claiming a Profile If a you have a profile in Pivot, you will want to connect that profile to your account, or “claim your profile” Claiming a profile allows you to see the Advisor on your home page and also update your profile When logging in, if a you see your name in the upper right as a hyperlink, your profile has already been claimed. If the name is not hyperlinked and you see an option to “Claim Profile” it has not been claimed A Claimed Profile…… An Unclaimed Profile….. Claiming a Profile – Click on “this is me” Who is included? Profiles are created for faculty members listed on University academic department websites. If department websites are unavailable, or if no faculty are listed on a department’s website, faculty profiles will be created based on the data available. Profiles are created for part-time and adjunct faculty and in some instances, graduate students as well. If you feel someone should have a Pivot profile, you can submit a request (Suggest A Scholar). • Approx. 2 week turnaround to add new profile Updating your Pivot Profile If you have pertinent information you need added or changed in your profile, you can make certain updates or additions on your own. Keeping you profile up-to-date enhances the quality of matches made by the Pivot Advisor You can attach certain types of files that COS Pivot will index and make searchable until the information is confirmed and added to your profile. Updates take approximately 2 weeks before information is published UPDATING YOUR PIVOT PROFILE Navigate to your claimed profile in the Profiles area of Pivot Click on the “Update your profile” link in the upper right area of your profile page You are taken outside Pivot to an area called Scholar Feedback Updating Your Pivot Profile Scholar Feedback allows you to provide updates to our editors, who will then review the information and post it to your Pivot profile. You can update: Name Email address(es) Webpages with publications Degrees Affiliations (both past and present) Other (this is an open text box that allows you to provide additional feedback that you cannot submit through the above fields, such as research interests) • Upload a CV or publications list in .pdf, .doc., or .txt format.
