
FIRE DRILL
Leave your school work and books where they
are, and head for the door quickly, but without
running or pushing.
 Do not cover your ears
 Teacher helpers make sure all lights are turned
off.
 Walk silently, in a straight line to the field.
 Remember there is not to be any talking as this
will help us listen for instructions.

GETTING A TISSUE
 You
may get a tissue whenever you need
one; you don't even have to ask; but please
do not walk in the front of the room.
 Throw the used tissue away immediately;
make sure it lands in the trash can; get
right back to work.
 Don’t forget the hand sanitizer.
GETTING AROUND THE CLASSROOM

You do not need to ask permission to throw
something in the garbage or to sharpen your
pencil.

Just use your common sense as to when you do these
activities (i.e., not during group presentations or
teacher instruction time).
HANDLING SEATWORK PAGES
As soon as you get a paper, on the top right-hand
side put your number and today's date, teacher,
and name of assignment.
 Then, if it is not immediately needed, put it in
your Boomerang Folder for homework.

HOMEWORK AND ASSIGNMENTS
All homework assignments will be written on the
“planner” portion of the whiteboard.
 It is YOUR responsibility to record this
information in your planner as you receive it.
 You are responsible for completing your
homework. Remember it will affect your grade.

IF I AM OUT OF THE CLASSROOM
 Occasionally
I may need to leave the room
momentarily, or you may arrive in the
morning and I will be in a meeting.
If that happens you are to follow the classroom
procedures we have practiced. You should conduct
yourself as though I were present.
 Your morning work will always be written or shown
on the board.

GOING TO THE OFFICE/NURSE
Going to the Office/Nurse –Ask the teacher for permission to go.

Get the appropriate pass.

Go directly to the office or nurse




Do not make any additional stops or detours.
Going to the Bathroom
 Use the restroom before school, during specials, when we take our
class break, lunch, recess. Otherwise you may not leave unless it is
an emergency.
Suddenly ill If you feel you are feeling sick to your stomach you do not need to check
with me first, quietly and quickly leave the room and go straight to the
restroom.
Proceed directly to the restroom or to the nurse’s room.
Let the teacher know if you need any assistance if you have time before
leaving the room.
LINING UP
Sit and wait silently; when called push in your
chair; take all necessary items; line up without
touching others or talking.
 Face the front of the line; keep your hands and
feet to yourselves; watch where you are going.

MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS AND
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE





While you are working in the mornings you will be
interrupted by the morning announcements. Make sure
you stand and show respect while you are reciting the
Pledge. As soon as the Pledge is over, stay standing for
uniform inspection, once your uniform has been passed off
you may sit and continue working on your morning work.
Students will stand once it is time for the Pledge
Push their chairs in before the announcements begin
Quit talking and listen attentively
After the announcements, students will remain standing
for the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.
OBTAINING HELP WITH ASSIGNMENTS
 Quietly
ask the students at your table for
help with directions (only if the Teacher is
NOT teaching the whole group or giving
directions)
 if you are working alone, raise your hand
to get help from the teacher.
 if you are working with a group, ask them
for help in understanding how you do the
assignment.
PARTICIPATING IN GROUP LESSONS
 Do
not bring anything with you unless I
ask you to
 Silently and politely find a place to sit
where you can do your best learning; sit
flat, not on your knees or laying down;
 Listen carefully for new information; raise
your hand to speak; do not speak when
someone else is speaking.
PREPARING FOR LUNCH
 Wait
silently at your desk; when your
group is called, get your lunch and line up
in order
 take everything with you, as you will not
be allowed to come back to the classroom
after we leave for lunch.
 While you're waiting in line, think about
the way you need to behave in the
lunchroom.
PARTICIPATING IN CLASS DISCUSSIONS
 Raise
your hand
 Wait for the teacher to give permission to
speak.
 Be polite to each other and not talk out
while another student or the teacher is
speaking.
 Respect other students’ comments and
questions.
 Avoid laughing or making rude comments.
HOW TO ASK QUESTIONS
 Raise
your hand and ask the question
when called upon.
 If you believe the question is of immediate
importance to everyone, raise your hand
normally and ask the question when
called upon.
 If the question is about the material or
you don’t understand the questions, raise
your hand and the teacher will come to
your desk.
RETURNING GRADED PAPERS

All graded papers will be filed under your
number in the pink hanging file crate. If you
wish to see how you did on a paper, you may
check the file folder when you complete work
early or any free time that you might have. This
will also serve for our Thursday Folder area.
RECESS – THIS IS YOUR TIME USE COMMON SENSE.
No climbing up the slides and when going down, do so
on your bottom only
 No climbing on the very top of the jungle gym
 If someone is waiting for a swing, be courteous and
give everyone a turn
 All wood chips and rocks are to stay on the ground.
 If a ball goes over the fence, you’ll have to retrieve it
after school.
 Stay off the retaining wall and don’t swing from the
tree.
 Be respectful – recess is often when problems arise
 When we want you to line up we will blow the whistle
4 times.

SIGNALS FOR ATTENTION
 When
I need your attention, I will do a
rhythmic clap, say 1,2,3 eyes on me, raise
my hand and wait, or count backwards
from 5, or something else (we will
experiment as the year goes to see what
works well).
 As soon as you hear the signal, stop what
you are doing, look at the Teacher, and
listen for directions.
TRANSITION BETWEEN ACTIVITIES
The teacher will give the signal (rhythmic clap,
bell, whistle, etc) when it is time to change
activities.
 Students must put away any materials that have
been out for the activity.
 After the students clean up, they may move to
the next activity.

TURNING IN HOMEWORK
Unless told otherwise, place your paper(s) in the
appropriate turn-in box.
 There will be a box labeled for each subject, i.e.
Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science and
History/Geography.

USING THE CLASSROOM LIBRARY

We will have “library” every Friday. During that
time you may check out a book.
 Take good care of the book as they all belong to
either me or my brother.
 When you are finished, return the book to the
basket.
 YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BOOK
YOU CHECK OUT. If you loose or damage a
book, you will be charged to replace it.
WATER BOTTLES
Water bottles must be plastic and have a closable
top.
 Bottles need to be refilled before school , at class
break, at recess, or lunchtime.
 Take these home daily to be washed

WALKING IN THE HALLWAYS
 Walk
in a single file line, keeping your
hands to yourself.
 There will be no talking as other classes
may be in their learning environment – it
is important that we respect other
classes.
 If a teacher has to close her/his door
because of the noise we are making in the
hallway, our class will loose recess time.
WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE DONE
Do an activity on the “What to do Now” sheet.
 This is not time to socialize.

WHAT TO DO WITH UNFINISHED WORK
All unfinished work becomes homework.
 Make sure you write it in your planner and put it
in your boomerang folder.

WHEN TO USE THE PENCIL SHARPENER
 At
the beginning of the day, the person
who chose the "Pencil Sharpener" job will
sharpen the pencils.
 If your pencil breaks during an
assignment, use a community pencil; only
the "Pencil Sharpener" can run the
sharpener.
 When the sharpener becomes full ONLY
MISS A. can empty it.
 Pencils must be sharpened in the morning
or right before Math.
WORKING IN GROUPS






We will often be working in groups.
You need to remember to speak quietly and listen carefully
to other group members.
If you have a question, ask one of your group members.
If no one in the group can answer the question, send only
one group member to me.
Take all the materials you will need; greet each other;
complete the task doing your personal best; thank the
others in your group.
DO NOT PUT OTHERS DOWN. We are all scholars!
WHEW! I KNOW THAT WAS A LOT
We are going to practice, practice, practice….
 Are there any questions?

