Overview of NEASC 2014
Where are we? What do we need to
accomplish in 2012-2013
July 18, 2012
NEASC
The Following Accomplishments
2011-2012
• Completed Description, Appraisal, Projection
goals for each of the 11 Standards
• Identified Key Priorities for each Standard
• Created project management plans – some of
which are still incomplete
NEASC
QUICK SUMMARY
WE MADE SOME PROGRESS ON
OUR KEY PRIORITIES, BUT WE
HAVE MUCH MORE WORK TO
ACCOMPLISH THIS YEAR TO BE
READY
NEASC
NEASC
Key Priorities
Standard One: Mission and Purpose
• Create a Vision Statement
• Review/Update the Mission Statement
• Proposals for the above two items have been forwarded
to the President…we just need to finalize approval
• Ensure that the Mission Statement is well-publicized
• This Committee has prepared a list of recommendations
NEASC
Standard Two: Planning and Evaluation
Big Issues:
• Need to create a new Strategic Plan…ideally we should have
it completed by September 2012 as we begin a new
academic year
• Using the Strategic Plan as the central driver, establish a
more comprehensive, integrated, and participatory Planning
and Evaluation process
• Measure effectiveness of CCRI’s planning function
NEASC
Standard Three: Governance
• Overall consensus of the NEASC Committee is that our
current governance system is not working
• Most of the feedback indicated that the system is too
complicated and cumbersome, and we should abandon
the current system and design a simpler system that is
more understandable and efficient
• To-date there has been little or no progress in
revamping the current system.
NEASC
Standard Four: The Academic Program
• Assessing Student Learning Outcomes…Need to take the process to a
higher level AND see that it is implemented
• Need to measure General Education outcomes both in terms of our
programs and in terms of College’s claims of creating a Educated Person
• Need to have greater link between Academic Program Review and
Assessment of Learning Outcomes…How are we using this information to
improve instruction?
• Need to revamp College’s approach to Developmental Education
• Need greater quality controls:
– Distance Learning Courses
– Common Course Objectives in multiple sections of the same course
NEASC
Standard Five – Faculty
• Need systems in place to orient and support adjunct
faculty
• Need to increase the diversity of our Faculty
• Need to create a more systematic, effective method
for using the data collected in faculty evaluations
NEASC
Standard Six – Students
• Create target goals for retention and graduation
• Implement the research from Foundations of
Excellence project
• Create learning goals for student programming
• Review resources and existing strategies for advising
and registering students
NEASC
Standard Seven
Library and Other Information Resources
• Question of how the College is addressing
information literacy
• NEASC had recommended in a prior review that
there be a plan in place for addressing the budget
priorities of all campus libraries
NEASC
Standard Eight – Physical and Technological Resources
• Demonstrate how the College is using the information
gathered in R25/X25/S25 to improve instruction – Guiding
question is How to Optimize the Use of College Space?
• Evaluate the changes that need to occur in the Master
Schedule to support good use of college space
• Need to address perceptions that faculty do not have
sufficient voice in technology decisions
• Need to create a Mission, Vision, and Long-Term Plan for
Distance Education
NEASC
Standard Nine – Financial Resources
• Need to communicate how the budget is created, how the
budget connects with strategic initiatives, etc.
• Need to establish a process/group to collect and use data for
decision-making
NEASC
Standard Ten – Public Disclosures
• Big Issue …Need a College-wide Policy Manual
• Need a working Governance System
• Need to create a “punch list” of changes to CCRI’s Web site (three
clicks…and you’re there)
• Address policies of Federal Higher Education Act:
–
–
–
–
Establish Institution’s Credit Hour Policy
Disclose credit transfer policy and a list of institutions with articulation agreements
Publish student complaint policy
Verification of students enrolled in distance or correspondence education
NEASC
Standard Eleven – Integrity
• Need college-wide policy manual
• Governance system needs to be revised…currently not working
• Need improved communications from governance committee
meetings
• Need better orientation for adjunct faculty
NEASC
NEASC
• The College has achieved a lot in last several years,
but we have more to accomplish
• Need Senior Management Team and MiddleManagement Team Support to Address our Priorities
this Year
Thank You to the entire
Committee
