Two imperatives
The Open Borders project: access to licensed eresources was a goal of
the National and State Libraries Australasia
“how can Australian libraries
ensure that the electronic
resources which they license are
used to the maximum extent
possible?
> how can discovery services be
configured to allow users to
search for articles, and
automatically show the user
those articles which they are
entitled to access by virtue of
their library memberships and
their libraries’ licences?”

What was Stage 4 all about?
• an ‘access and linking framework’ based on Trove
• supporting a range of authentication mechanisms
from one platform, including:
– EZproxy
– IP authentication
– library systems barcodes
– OpenURL resolvers
• introducing new content: a big-bang approach
– starting with 120 million items

So what happened?
