What we can tell you about the labor
force/population
• Age, sex, race
• Educational attainment
• Wage/income
• Migration
• Characteristics of (some of) the unemployed
• Commuting patterns
Portland Job Vacancy Survey: April 2007
• 19,325 job vacancies in the Portland area (Multnomah,
Washington, and Clackamas counties) in April of this year.
• Almost one-third of job vacancies had been unfilled for two
months or longer.
• The health care and manufacturing industries had the
most job vacancies. Combined, these two industries
represented one-third of all Portland area vacancies.
• Seventy percent of all health care industry vacancies
require education beyond high school and 62 percent
require a license or certificate. These higher-than-typical
educational requirements add to the difficulty in filling this
industry’s vacancies.
• Of the vacancies with wage information, one-in-four paid a
wage of at least $20 an hour, while one-in-four paid less
than $10 an hour.
