Mission Statement
• The Community College of Rhode Island
Department of Athletics, Physical Education and
Recreation, an integral part of the curriculum, is
dedicated to each individual physical education
student and student-athlete by providing a high
quality, nationally acclaimed and accredited
program which promotes academic and athletic
excellence.
Student-Athlete in Good Standing
• Defined as complying with all rules and
regulations set forth by CCRI, CCRI
Athletics and the NJCAA.
• As a student-athlete in Good Standing you
qualify for CCRI Awards and athletic
based scholarships.
POLICY ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT
• CCRI does not tolerate harassment of its students.
This type of behavior may result in immediate
suspension or expulsion from the College.
• Harassment includes, but is not limited to, slurs, jokes,
and other verbal, graphic or physical conduct relating to
race, color, sex, religion, national origin, citizenship,
sexual orientation, age, or handicap.
POLICY ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT
• If you feel that you are being harassed in the
above manner, you should notify your instructor
or the Dean of Students immediately. Your
complaint will be kept as confidential as possible
and you will not be penalized in any way for
reporting such conduct.
• Please do not assume that the College is aware
of your problem. It is your responsibility to bring
your complaints and concerns to our attention so
that we can help resolve them.

Code of Ethics and Sportsmanship
CCRI POLICY ON ALCOHOL USE
• Possession and/or consumption of alcohol is strictly controlled by
the College. Rhode Island law states that no alcoholic beverages
can be sold, delivered, given, or consumed in any way by a person
under 21 years of age.
• Anyone under the age of 21 who knowingly makes false statements
as to his/her age in order to purchase or in any way procure or
consume alcoholic beverages shall be subject to appropriate
prosecution existing under state law.
• Assistance is available in finding community resources for those
who are experiencing alcohol related difficulties.
CCRI POLICY ON DRUGS AND
NARCOTIC USE
• The use of narcotics and drugs on the College campus
violates campus policy and Rhode Island State Law. The
law prohibits the manufacture, distribution, dispensation,
sale, possession or use of any illegal drug.
• Any student who violates institutional policy or state or
federal law as it relates to the use of drugs may be
subject to disciplinary action taken by the college
including suspension or expulsion.
CCRI Athletics Statement on
Alcohol and Drugs
CCRI Athletics strictly forbids the use of
alcohol and/or drugs by CCRI
student-athletes at any CCRI athletic
sponsored event regardless of age.

• Educational programs and seminars are
developed which provide significant information
and literature regarding the implications and
consequences of drug and alcohol use.
• Assistance is available in finding community
resources for those who are experiencing
alcohol or drug related difficulties.
• Contact your head coach, team administrator or
the Dean of Students if such help is needed.

• CCRI athletics will not actively patrol online profiles to
look for evidence of any wrongdoing – but CCRI
athletics is obliged to respond to any complaints.

Hours of Operation
Monday –Friday 9:00 am-3:00 pm
The SAASP will allow student-athletes to prepare
properly for their academic goals. In doing so,
the student-athlete will discuss the following
during SAASP visits:
Advising/Counseling
Financial Aid
Career Planning
Co-Operative Education
Peer Tutoring
NCAA Clearinghouse/Transfer
Access to Opportunity (if applicable)
Each Student-Athlete will be required to
attend the Student Athlete Academic
Support Center two days each week for a
minimum of 1 hour each day beginning the
second week of classes in the Fall
semester and the first week of classes in
the Spring semester.
• There will be Weekly Attendance checks during
each semester at week #3. In weeks 5, and 12
there will be Semester Grade checks.
• The student-athletes will receive all SAASP
forms from their SAASP Advisor and will be
responsible for the completion and return of all
forms.
• All Forms must be returned to the SAASP center
by 3:00pm one week after receiving the forms.
• If a Student-Athlete’s classroom performance is
unsatisfactory (Defined as a “D”, “F”, or “U” in
one or more classes), they will have one week to
complete a Plan for Performance Improvement
Form for each class.
• The student-athlete will bring the form to their
professor for suggestions to improve his/her
class performance and the Professors signature.
• The Plan for Performance Improvement Forms
must be returned to the SAASP Center by 3:00
pm one week after receiving the forms.
SAASP Non Compliance
• In Season: Suspended from practice and/or
games until all hours are made up.
Suspensions will begin each Friday Morning.
• Out of Season: Suspended the following season
one practice and/or game for each hour missed.
Suspension will begin on the NJCAA date for
the first official practice or the team first official
practice, whichever comes second. The
“Student-Athlete In Good Standing” status is
forfeited.

Eligibility
All prospective student-athletes must
complete the STUDENT ATHLETE
PACKET, available from your team head
coach.
• Each page MUST be completed in it’s
entirety and all signatures in order.
• Once the student-athlete packet is
approved by the team administrator the
student-athlete is eligible for participation.
NJCAA
Athletic Eligibility Rules
INCOMING FRESHMAN
Must have a high school diploma or GED
• The NJCAA requires that the student-athlete
provide a copy of their High School Diploma /
GED.
INCOMING FRESHMAN
Must be registered for 15 or more credits
• If a student-athlete drops below 12 credits, he/she
is immediately ineligible.
• An automatic hold flag (AM) is placed upon each
entering student athlete t preventing the dropping
of any course without approval of our academic
advisor.
• All student-athletes must be registered into Liberal
Arts or General Studies
Second Semester Eligibility
At the end of the first semester, he/she must
have passed twelve (12) credits with a
1.75 GPA or higher in order to be eligible
for participation in their second semester.
Second Season Eligibility
At the end of the second full time semester,
a student must have passed a minimum of
24 credits with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

• The student-athlete is responsible for
completing the sports information form
• The head coach and student-athlete is
responsible for providing the sports
information coordinator with specific
information regarding individual or team
publicity.

Sports Medicine Statement
• CCRI Sports Medicine (institutional
physician and athletic trainers) working in
conjunction with the CCRI coaching staff,
are dedicated to providing the best
possible care to all our student-athletes.
CCRI Sports Medicine Policy
• The Athletic Trainer, in conjunction with the
institutional or private physician are
responsible for determining when a
student-athlete can return to practice or
play.
• All injuries must be reported to a member
of the CCRI Athletic Training Staff.
