WAT-ER
YOU DOING?
How to conserve water everyday
by making a few simple changes
to how you shower!
#1 Install a Low-flow Shower Head
For as little as $10, you can go to your
local home improvement store and buy a
low flow showerhead, which can reduce
water consumption by half or more and
help keep your home green.
Low-flow Shower head
Low-flow or water saving shower heads
use as little as 1.5 gallons per minute.
A ten minute shower would use only 15
gallons versus the standard shower head
that would use 70-100 gallons.
#2 Take Shorter Showers
A conventional shower head uses 7-10
gallons of water per minute. That’s 70-100
gallons of water for a ten minute shower!
Cutting your shower time in half could
save 35-50 gallons of water every time you
take a shower!
Tips for Shorter Showers
 Use a shower timer
 Try a 2-in-1 shampoo-conditioner
combination
 Try a navy shower (see #3)
Tips for Shorter Showers
 Create a playlist on your iPod that
coincides with your desired shower
length
 Take a luke warm or cold shower (you'll
want to get out)
#3 Take Navy Showers
A method whereby you only have the
water running in the shower when you
need to use it.
Steps for a Navy Shower
1. Turn on water, let it warm up.
2. Step into the shower and leave it on just long
enough to get wet, then turn it off.
3. Shampoo your hair and wash yourself, all without
the water on.
4. When you're finished soaping up, turn the water
back on and rinse off.
5. If you still need to use conditioner and anything
else, turn the water off and do that.
Navy Shower Info
 This green shower technique uses only
3 gallons of water on average and can
save a person up to 15,000 gallons of
water every year!
