What is Tran-Space?
• A transition space at the entrance of the
NICU which enforces a procedure for
infection control
• Aims to control the risk of infections in the
NICU
• Centralized area for activities such as
– record-keeping of visitors
– hand-washing before entering the NICU
– giving visitors a general awareness
2
Existing Visitor Management Limitations
• Process is highly decentralized, difficult to
enforce
• Visitors have limited knowledge about
recommended procedures for infection
control
• Difficult for hospital staff to regulate visitor
activities
3
Features of Tran-Space
• Serves as waiting room for first-time visitors
• Posters containing important expectations in
NICU from visitors
• Workspace with adequate light for nurses to
do related tasks (documentation, reeducation, screening, etc.)
• Temporary storage area for family visitors’
belongings
• A hands-free hand washing station
