And This is Life Eternal

Part 1 Compiled and Illustrated from The Scriptures & The Spirit of Prophecy April 2014

As a disciple of Jesus Christ, John bore witness to us of the words of Jesus, Who prayed to The Father for all, whom HE has given unto HIS Son.

John wrote of Christ Jesus and said…

“These words spake Jesus , and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father , the hour is come; glorify thy Son , that thy Son also may glorify thee : As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him . And this is life eternal , that they might know thee the only true God , and Jesus Christ , whom thou hast sent” (John 17:1-3).

As we study the words that Jesus spoke, we need to focus our minds, not just on the letters that form the words that we read from time to time, but to take note of the message that He has revealed to us in His words. As we receive the message of His words, we will be blessed to receive The Promise He has given to us in His words. Jesus has revealed to us in His prayer that the hour had come for The Father to glorify HIS Son, that HIS Son also may glorify HIM. The Father has given to HIS Son Power over all flesh. Why? The answer is given, that He--The Son should give eternal life to as many as The Father has given to Him. Notice how and why the hour had come for The Son to give glory to The Father.

Jesus has revealed in His words the definition of Eternal Life, or the meaning of Life Eternal. He made this meaning clear when He declared that life eternal is knowing The Father--The Only TRUE GOD, and Jesus Christ, Whom HE has sent. Did Jesus change the meaning of Eternal Life since that time of His ministry with His disciples? Are we to believe that these words are still True?

Or believe that the meaning has been changed? If we trust in GOD’S Word, then we will believe that HIS Word, Whom HE has sent is True. It was after Judas had departed from those, who were gathered together with Jesus at the Passover fellowship, that John, in testifying of Jesus, said of Him…

“…when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is man glorified , and God is glorified in the Son of him . If God be glorified in him , shall straightway God shall also glorify glorify him in himself , and him ” (John 13:31, 32).

Notice what Jesus has revealed in these words about giving glory to The Father, WHO sent Him. He said, Now is The Son of man glorified, and GOD is glorified in Him. He said, If GOD be glorified in Him, GOD shall also glorify Him in Himself, and shall straightway glorify Him.

Would the church be giving glory to Christ Jesus, if the members bypassed Him, to give His glory to someone else, whom many say is a mystery? Is there not a problem in declaring The Truth of Eternal Life, as It is revealed by The Son of GOD? It was in His prayer to The Father that Jesus Christ prayed and said…

“ I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which glorify thou thou me gavest with me to do. And now, thine own self with the O Father glory which I , had with name thee before the world was.

unto the men which thou I gavest thine kept they were, and thou gavest them thy word ” (John 17:4-6).

have manifested thy me out of the world: me ; and they have

Notice that Jesus has revealed that He has finished the work on earth that The Father give Him to do. He did not leave this work to be completed by a mysterious someone, whom the world knows not. Jesus has prayed to The Father that HE might glorify Him with HIS OWN SELF, with the glory which He had with The Father before the world was.

Our Eternal Life is based upon knowing The Only True GOD, and Jesus Christ, Whom HE--The Father has sent. Has The Father given to the church evidence to bypass Christ Jesus, and give His glory to someone else? Notice what Paul said about what GOD has revealed.

“Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ , called [to be] an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God , (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord , which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared [to be] the Son of God with power , according to the spirit of holiness , by the resurrection from the dead: By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for the called of his name Jesus Christ : Among whom are ye also : To all that be in Rome, beloved of God , called [to be] saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father , and the Lord Jesus Christ ” (Romans 1:1 7).

“For I am not ashamed of power of God unto the gospel salvation of Christ : for it is the to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith : as it written, The just shall live by faith . For the wrath of God is is revealed from unrighteousness heaven of against men, who all hold ungodliness the truth and in unrighteousness ; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for them. For the invisible God things of hath shewed [it] unto him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead ; so that they are without excuse:” (Romans 1:16-20).

Notice that Paul was called to represent the gospel concerning our Lord--Jesus Christ--The Son of GOD. As with Eternal Life, which is based upon knowing The Father, as The Only True GOD and Jesus Christ, Whom HE has sent, the gospel is the means of revealing The Righteousness of GOD unto our salvation from faith to faith. That Which may be known of God is manifest to men; for God has shown The Truth unto men. For the Invisible Things of HIM are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even HIS Eternal Power and Godhead; so that men are without excuse for not knowing What Christ Jesus has revealed. It was after the declaration of being glorified by GOD that Christ Jesus said to His disciples, saying…

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in also in me . In my Father's God , believe house are many mansions: if [it were] not [so], I would have told you.

I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, will come again, and receive you unto myself ; that where I I am , [there] ye may be also. And whither the way ye know. Thomas saith unto I him , go ye know, and Lord , we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way ?

Jesus saith unto him, no man cometh unto I am the way , the Father the truth , but by , and me the life . If ye had : known me , ye should have known from henceforth ye know him my Father , and have seen also: and him ” (John 14:1-7).

Notice what Jesus has revealed to His disciples of The Father, WHO is INVISIBLE to men, and has sent Him unto men, and was in Him. Jesus said, Now is The Son of Man glorified, and GOD is glorified in Him. Ye believe in GOD, believe also in Me. I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life: no man cometh unto The Father, but by Me. If ye had known Me, ye should have known My Father also: and from henceforth ye know HIM, and have seen HIM.

And because Philip did not quite understand, John said…

“Philip saith unto him , Lord , shew us the Father , and it sufficeth us.

Jesus saith unto him, Have time with you, and yet hast thou not known I been so long me , Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen thou [then], Shew us the Father ; and how sayest the Father ?” (John 14:8, 9)

Like Philip, many in the world today do not understand The Truth GOD has revealed to us by HIS Word. Philip said… Lord, show us The Father, and it would be sufficient for us. If The Father, WHO is INVISIBLE was in Jesus--The Son of Man, giving HIS glory unto Him, then, WHO was it that was speaking by HIS Word unto Philip? John testified that Jesus said, or He revealed something unto Philip. But it was The Father, WHO was speaking to Philip by HIS Word, saying… Have I been so long time with you, and yet have you not known ME, Philip? Jesus bore Witness of The Father, WHO was speaking by Him and said, “he that has seen Me hath seen The Father; and how say you then, Show us The Father?

To confirm The Father’s WITNESS by HIS Word, Jesus said…

“Believest thou not that in me ?

the words that I am in I the Father speak unto you , and I the Father speak not of myself : but in the Father works. Believe me that me : or else believe I that dwelleth in me me , he [ am ] in the Father , and doeth the the Father for the very works' sake” (John 14:10, 11).

Notice that The Father was glorifying HIS Son, by revealing HIMSELF to the disciples, who had received HIS Word, Whom HE had sent.

Jesus did not deny The Glory of The Father, WHO was speaking to them through Him. For He said to them… “Believe you not that I am in The Father, and The Father is in Me?” “The words that I speak unto you I speak not of Myself: but The Father that dwells in Me, HE does the works.” Notice that Jesus is both The Word of GOD and The Witness of GOD to men.

In His prayer to The Father, Jesus had revealed the work that The Father gave Him to do here upon the earth.

Jesus made it clear that His work was to glorified The Father upon the earth. He declared that He had finished the work which The Father gave Him to do.

Notice that the work that Jesus did upon the earth was to make The Father known to men. For He said, I have manifested YOUR NAME unto the men which YOU gave Me out of the world: YOURS they were, and YOU gave them Me; and they have kept YOUR Word.

He also made it clear in His prayer that He is The One, Whom The Father has sent.

Our eternal life is based upon knowing The Truth of What Jesus has revealed about The Father and about Himself.

To confirm that The Son of Man was giving glory to The Father, WHO sent Him, as HIS Word unto men, John said…

“No man hath seen

begotten Son

,

he which God

at any time; is in the bosom of hath declared [

him

]” (John 1:18).

Notice that no man has seen GOD at any time. The Only Begotten Son has declared and manifested HIS NAME to men.

The Father did not bypass HIS Son, to be made known through someone else. For it was the work of The Only Begotten Son to make known The Father, WHO is INVISIBLE to men.

And Jesus declared to The Father that those, who received Him, as The Word of GOD, Whom The Father has sent, they have kept HIS Word.

For the words that He spoke unto them He spoke not of Himself: but of The Father, WHO was dwelling in Him. HE--The Father does HIS works by HIS Word. We are to believe HIS Word for the very works' sake.

If Jesus was sent to declare The Father’s NAME to men, then When did He begin to manifest HIS NAME to men? Jesus said…

“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of

me

” (John 5:39).

From His Own Testimony, Jesus has declared that all of Scripture is testifying of Him, as The Word, Whom The Father has sent. All of Scripture Testifies of Him, Whom The Father has sent.

---- Old Testament --- ---- New Testament --- Notice that if all of Scripture Testify of Christ Jesus, and it is He, Who has declared The Father’s NAME to men, then is there a verse in Scripture that can confirm this Truth? Jesus Said…

“No man can come to me , except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God . Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father , cometh unto me . Not that any man hath seen the Father , save he which is of God , he hath seen the Father on me hath . Verily, verily, I everlasting life .

say unto you, He that believeth I am that bread of life ” (John 6:44-48).

Notice what Jesus has reveal to those, who have received His words of Life. He, in speaking to His disciples and to the Jews, who came to Him for bread, He said, No man can come to Me, except The Father, WHO has sent Me--The Word, to draw men unto The Father. The Scriptures at that time were of the written words of the prophets. For all the prophets testified that it was The Word of The LORD, Who came unto them saying unto them The Will of The LORD. Jesus made it clear that every man that have heard, and have learned of The Father came unto Him, Who has revealed to men The Father’s Will. As a servant of The Word of GOD, David has confirmed that The Word of GOD spoke The Will of GOD through him. For He said by him…

“Then said written of I , Lo, me , I I come: in the volume of delight to do thy will, the book O my God [it is] : yea, thy law [is] within my heart .

I the great congregation: lo, have preached I have not righteousness refrained my lips , in O LORD , within thou knowest.

my heart ; I I have not have declared hid thy thy righteousness faithfulness and thy salvation : I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation” (Psalms 40:7-10).

It was through His servants the prophets that The Word of GOD declared and made known GOD’S glory to His people. He has revealed that He comes to us in The Volume of The Book, because It is written of Him--His-story. He delights to do The Father’s Will, because HIS Law is within His heart. Through those, like Noah, who received Him, He has preached HIS Righteousness in the great congregation. The LORD knows that He did not refrained His lips.

He did not hide HIS Righteousness, or conceal HIS Love, or HIS Truth within His heart.

He did declared HIS Faithfulness and HIS salvation to the great congregation. It was by His servant Paul, who wrote of Him and of GOD and said…

“ God , who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [ his ] appointed heir of all things, by worlds” (Hebrews 1:1, 2).

Son , whom whom he also he hath made the

Notice what The Son of GOD has revealed to us of The Father and of Himself through His servant Paul.

HE--The Father has appointed HIS Son Heir of all things. And it is by HIS Son--(The Word of GOD) that HE--The Father also made the worlds. GOD, WHO at sundry times and in divers manners spoke in time past unto the fathers by the prophets.

---- Old Testament --- HE has in these last days spoken unto us by HIS Son. ---- New Testament --- From this verse, it is confirmed that GOD--The Father has spoken to the fathers in times past, not directly, but by the prophets.

HE--The Father has sent HIS Word, and HE spoke by HIS Word to men, and through men. HE spoke to the fathers by the prophets.

---- Old Testament --- HE spoken unto His disciples by HIS Son. ---- New Testament --- Notice The Truth of how The Father spoke to men by HIS Son.

“Philip saith unto him , Lord , shew us the Father , and it sufficeth us.

Jesus saith unto him, Have time with you, and yet hast thou not known I been so long me , Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father ; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us am in the Father , and the Father ? Believest thou not that the Father in me ?

the words that speak unto you dwelleth in me , I speak he not of myself : but doeth the works. Believe the Father me that I that [ am ] in the Father , and the Father in me : or else believe the very works' sake” (John 14:8-11).

Notice that in the same way that Philip wanted to see The Father, WHO was speaking to him by HIS Son--The Word of GOD, in Whom HIS PRESENCE was revealed, Moses also wanted to know The Way of The Father, WHO was being revealed to him by HIS Word, Whom HE did send to men.

And just as Philip did not know that The Father was speaking to him by HIS Son, Moses did not know that it was through The Son that The LORD was speaking to him. For it is written that…

“… the LORD said unto Moses, Depart, [and] go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it: And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite” (Exodus 33:1, 2).

“And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood [at] the door of the tabernacle, and [ the LORD ] talked with Moses. And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand [at] the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man [in] his tent door. And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend . And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

And Moses said unto the LORD , See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, name, and thou I know thee by hast also found grace in my sight” (Exodus 33:9-12).

“Now therefore, I pray sight, shew me now thee thy way , if I have found grace in , that I may know thee thy , that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation [is] thy people. And thee], and I he said, My presence shall go [with will give thee rest. And he said unto him , If thy presence go not [with me], carry us not up hence” (Exodus 33:13-15).

Notice that Moses testified that he was in the Tabernacle, and The Cloudy Pillar descended, and stood at The Door of The Tabernacle. The LORD talked with Moses through The Door of The Tabernacle.

The LORD spoke to Moses Face to face, as a man speaks unto his Friend.

And Moses said to The LORD… See, YOU say unto me, Bring up this people: and YOU have not let me know Whom YOU will send with me.

It was Moses’ understanding that The LORD would send an Angel to be with him, but he did not know that The Angel, Whom The LORD had sent was already there speaking with him.

Notice the request that Moses presented to The LORD. Moses said… I pray THEE, if I have found grace in THY sight, show me now THY Way, that I may know THEE, that I may find grace in THY sight: and consider that this nation [is] THY people.

And The LORD spoke by HIS Word to Moses and said… My PRESENCE shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

Notice that it was Jesus--The Christ, Who said to Thomas….

“…

I am the way

cometh unto ,

the truth

, and

the Father

, but by

the life

: no man

me

” (John 14:6).

Notice that the answer that Jesus gave to Thomas applies to all.

The question to all is this: Do we really believe that He is The Only Way to know The Father, or is there another Way?

He is The Way to know The LORD, even for Moses. He is The Word of GOD and The Witness of GOD, Who has revealed to men The Truth of GOD.

He is Life to all, Who will receive Him.

Notice what Paul wrote about the faith of Moses and of The Son of GOD, Who came to him. Paul said,

“By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God , than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible ” (Hebrews 11:24 27).

Who is the image of the invisible God , every creature” (Colossians 1:15).

Notice that by faith Moses forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing Him, Who is Invisible.

For Christ--The Word of GOD is also Invisible to men, but He chose to reveal His Presence to men, as a Pillar of cloud. Notice what Paul said about This Pillar of Cloud that went with and before Moses and the children of Israel.

“…brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud , and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat meat ; And did all drink the same spiritual the same spiritual drink : for they drank of Rock was that spiritual Rock that followed them: and Christ ” (1 Corinthians 10:1-4).

Notice that all did eat of The Spiritual Meat, and drink of The Spiritual Drink. For they ate and drank of That Spiritual Rock that followed them, Who is The Word--The Spirit of Christ.

Christ, The Son of GOD revealed Himself to Moses and the children of Israel, as a Pillar of Cloud. And He--The Spirit of Christ came to earth and revealed Himself to men also in the form of flesh. And Speaking to The Father, WHOSE NAME He manifested to His disciples, He said… “…I have given unto them The words Which YOU gave Me; and they have received them, “…and have known surely that I came out from YOU, and they have believed that YOU did send Me. Notice what Christ Jesus has said about The Spiritual Meat and Drink that all are to receive. John testified of Him, Who said…

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life .

I am that bread of life . Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.

This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

I am the living bread which down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread came , he shall live for ever: and which I the bread that I will give is my flesh will give for the life of the world. The Jews , therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us [ his ] flesh to eat?” (John 6:47-52).

“Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh blood , ye have no life of the Son of man in you. Whoso eateth , and drink his my flesh , and drinketh my blood , hath eternal life ; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh , and drinketh my blood , dwelleth in me , and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me , and I live by the Father : so he that eateth me , even he shall live by me .

This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever” (John 6:53-58).

John wrote of Him and said of His words, saying…

“These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. Many therefore of had heard [this], said, hear it ?” (John 6:59, 60) This his disciples, when they is an hard saying; who can

Notice What Jesus has revealed to His disciples in His words of Life.

He, who believes on Christ Jesus, he has Eternal Life. For He is The Bread of Life. He is The Bread, Which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

He is The Living Bread, Which came down from heaven. If any man eat of Him, to receive Him, he shall live forever, for The Bread He has given is His Spiritual flesh--The Meat of The Word, Which He give for the life of the world.

But many of the Jews, and His Own disciples, who heard His words of Life, they did not understand. John said…

“When at it , he Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured said unto them, Doth this offend you? [What] and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

nothing: It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth the words that I speak unto you, [ they ] are spirit , and [ they ] are life . But there are some of you that believe not . For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not , and who should betray him . And he said, Therefore said except it I unto you, that no man can come unto were given unto him of me , my Father ” (John 6:61 65).

“From that [time] many of walked no more with him his disciples went back, and . Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him , Lord , to whom shall we go?

thou hast life . And we believe and are sure that the words of eternal thou art that Christ , the Son of the living God .

Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

He spake of Judas Iscariot [the son] of Simon: for he it was that should betray him , being one of the twelve” (John 6:66-71).

Notice The Truth of The words of Christ, that it is He, Whom The Father has sent, to draw men unto The Father, WHO sent Him.

Except we eat The Flesh of The Son of Man, and drink His Blood, we have not His Life--His Spirit in us. Whosoever eat of His Flesh, and Drink of His Blood, has Eternal Life; and He will raise us up at the last day.

He made it clear that he that eat of His Flesh, and drink of His Blood, dwells in Him, and He in him.

This saying should be really clear to us, on Who it is that dwells in us. To make His words even more clear to us, Jesus said… As The LIVING Father has sent Him, and He lives by The Father: so we, who eat of Him, even we shall live by His Spirit of Life in us.

But many of His Own disciples, who thought that His sayings were hard to understand, they turned away from following Him. Yet, it is said…

“ The Holy Spirit always leads to attention to the great moral the written Word , and calls the standard of righteousness . To be honored of God in thus being privileged to testify of the truth is a wonderful thing. Said Christ to His disciples just before ascended up and the clouds of angels received Him He out of their sight, "Ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth" (Acts 1:8). They were qualified by the heavenly endowment of the Holy Spirit to testify of Christ . I wish to impress upon you the fact that those who have actually received Jesus abiding in the heart by the Holy Spirit faith have . Every individual who receives Jesus as his personal Saviour just as surely receives the Holy Spirit to be his Counselor , Sanctifier , Guide , and Witness .

“The more closely the believer walks with God , the clearer his witness, and, as a sure result, the more powerful will be the influence of his testimony upon others of a Saviour's love ; the more he will give evidence that he prizes the Word of God .

It is his meat , it is his drink , to satisfy the thirsty soul. He prizes the privilege of learning the will of God be believers have from slighted His Word , and turned . Some souls who claim to from, the Word of God .

They have tester neglected the Bible , the wonderful Guidebook of all ideas, and claim that they have the Spirit , the true to teach them, that this renders searching the Scriptures unnecessary. All such are heeding Word agree. Say the sophistry of Satan , for the Spirit and the the Scriptures , "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to light this word , it is because there is no in them." He only is a free man whom the truth makes free.- Manuscript Releases, vol. 14, pp. 70, 71." (Ye Shall Receive Power, Page 118)

The same turning away from Him, many are today being led to do, in turning away from believing His words of Life. As the seventy disciples turned away from Him, because His sayings were hard for them to digest, many have been led to turn away from The Truth of The Father and HIS Only Begotten Son, because they have been told that His words are a Mystery.

Yet, those, who believe on Him, He has declared that they have kept The Father’s Word, Whom HE has sent. And they have believed that He came out of The Father, to be The Son of The LIVING GOD, to be sent by HIM unto men.

As The LIVING Father has sent Him, and He lives by The Father: so all, who receives Him, even we shall live by Him, Who is The Word of Eternal Life.
