What is the Geosphere?

 -The geosphere is the Earth’s outer layer of crust.
-It is the densest part of the Earth.
-It is made up of minerals ,rocks ,and landforms.

The cycles of the geosphere

The carbon cycle

The cow eats and
absorbs carbon.

The plant gives
oxygen.

The plant
absorbs oxygen.

The cow
exhales CO2.

Features of the Geosphere

Erosion

Tectonic Plates
Pacific/North America

material is worn away
from the earth's surface South America/African
weathering,
dissolution, abrasion,
corrosion, and
transportation

Continents

North America
South
America

Europe
Evrasion/Antarctica

Asia
Antarctica

Africa

Australia

Volcanoes

Earthquakes

Exist along
edges of
tectonic
plates

A sudden
movement of the
earth's crust

About 90
percent of all
volcanoes
exist within
the Ring of
Fire

caused by the release of
stress accumulated along
geologic fault lines

About 1,900
volcanoes on Earth
are considered
active

Geosphere Interactions

A volcano cloud forms in
the atmosphere

The volcano erupts

The geosphere has many rocks

How does the
Geosphere
interact with
other spheres?

The hydrosphere breaks
down the geosphere(rocks)

Geosphere Layers

Geosphere

Crust

outermost
layer

Mantle

hot layer of
rock

Core

Earth’s
center

Human interactions with the
Geosphere

Mining

Metal ore is extracted from
Earth at mines

How do
humans
effect the
Geosphere?
Trash

Landfills form
