“As stated in previous years, schools are advised to insert the 27th June 2014
leaving date in September when the school has confirmation that the student
is not returning. This process should continue. Obviously there is the issue of
what absence code to use between 28th June and the end of term. From the
the DfE Absence and Attendance Codes guidance January 2009 please find
below an extract taken from page relating to 'X' code, which states that:
Under the 2006 Pupil Registration regulations, schools cannot delete Year 11
pupils who intend to remain at the school and enter the Sixth Form (Year 12)
from the school registers. Once the pupils have reached the end of their
compulsory school-age, which is on the last Friday in June, they can be
recorded using this code if the school has not asked them to attend. Using the
'X' code in this way allows the student to stay on roll until the school has
confirmation that they have left. “
