Comments
“Heritage is not confined to Palaces and Forts. Democracy
and Heritage in India is kept alive by rural artisans. Though
poverty is still around, the will of the Govt. of Rajasthan is
to reduce the poverty of the artisans and keep the art alive
by their empowerment through RUDA’s good effort. Job well
done”.
Narpat Singh Rajvi,
Industries Minister, Rajasthan
July 2004

“Rajasthan has been a pioneer in establishing an independent
agency adopting the sub-sector approach , which is
professionally managed and has a clear understanding of RNFS
issues.”
Prabhu Ghate, TheWorld Bank

Slide 5

Why ?
 Low preference for craft based enterprises among
CIGs - only 529 craft sub projects proposed for
appraisal out of 700 identified CIGs
 CIGs drop out from craft based enterprises to other
choices.
 NGO drop out from programme on account of
structural problems.
 DPIP goes the IRDP way by preferring goatry and
livestock projects.
