Injectable Packing
Injectable packing is not a new concept,
however Utex has developed a new
means of containment that has
revolutionized injectable packing. This
new means of containment (patent
pending) enables injectable packing to
perform even better than before in most
services, especially where abrasive
particles are present in the pumpage.
Injectable Packing
Utex Industries manufactures
several styles of UPAK to fit
most packed box applications
Typical Installation

Hydraulic Injection Gun
Injectable Packing
Although UPAK is
available in bulk
form, pre-packaged
“sticks” of UPAK
make loading the
hydraulic injection
gun simple.
Injectable Packing
The “Giant Button
Head Fitting” and
companion quick
coupler are designed
especially for the
injection of highly
viscous materials.

the “Giant Button
Head Fitting”
contains a ball
check, eliminating
the need for an
additional valve on
most applications.

When leakage does occur, no gland adjustment
is necessary. Simply inject more UPAK through
the port until leakage subsides. This can be done without stopping the pump.
UPAK will run leak free in most common
applications for extended periods of time.

With ASF End Rings
Injectable Packing
The “ASF” ring is a
molded seal ring similar
to a “Vee” or “Chevron”
type ring. The difference
is that it is flat backed
and doesn’t require a
top adapter. These rings
can be molded from a
myriad of different
compounds and can be
of either homogeneous
or composite
construction.
In order to facilitate easy
installation, we have devised
a means of cutting the
molded rings in an
interlocking fashion that
keeps the joint from
separating during installation
or during equipment
operation. The result is
superior anti-extrusion of the
UPAK material and/or limited
contamination of the UPAK
from process liquid.
Installation with ASF Rings
The bottom ring is oriented toward the UPAK
on most services but when the process
contains abrasives, the bottom ring can be
rotated to keep abrasives out of the UPAK.

Leakage can be controlled by adding UPAK
without stopping the pump, thus preventing
costly downtime.
Compression Packing vs. Injectable Packing
Compression Packing:
Injectable Packing:
•Requires break-in time
•Must leak to lubricate
•Must be adjusted regularly
•Shutdown required to adjust
•Causes severe shaft damage
•Cannot seal on damaged shaft
•Frequently requires replacement
•Requires no break-in time
•Runs leak free
•Easy & infrequent adjustment
•Shutdown not required to adjust
•Causes no shaft damage
•Can seal on damaged shaft
•Infrequently requires replacement
