Bydgoszcz
AND OUR SCHOOL
Agata Rauchfleisch
Helena Chamier-Gliszczyńska
It is a city with nearly 400
thousand inhabitants, for over 7
centuries harmoniously growing
alongside the banks of brda and
vistula rivers draws its wisdom
and strength from the resources of
spiritual and material heritage.
Bydgoszcz is the capital city of
the kujawsko-pomorskie
voivodship and at the same time it
i s t h e l a r g e s t c i t y i n k u j a w y.
An extraordinary combination of a
convenient communication point,
modern economy and rich
scientific, technical and business
environment places bydgoszcz
among cities distinguished by the
m o d e r n i t y o f e c o n o m y.
One cannot look at the economic potential of the
city, its diversity, without drawing the attention
to the significance of rivers in its development.
This is particularly seen on the example of
preserved
sluices on the Bydgoszcz Canal and magnificent
industrial engineering facilities.
River transport became the flywheel of city's
economy in the previous centuries and today it
is possible to admire a whole range of
preserved examples of industrial engineering
connected with water.
Wyspa Mlynska
Especially many tokens of old Bydgoszcz survived
in the city centre. Therefore it is worth visiting the
Wyspa Mlynska, which is surrounded by the
waters of Brda River. The beauty of the picturesque
location of the Wyspa Mlynska is emphasized by
facades of eighteen and nineteen century granaries,
Rother's Mills, reflected in the Brda River, and
they constitute an indelible memory of the city from
several hundred years ago.

Pomeranian Philharmonic
Polish Theatre
Opera "Nova"
Development of the city is inseparably connected
with the increase in demand for top quality culture.
Superb performances on the scenes of the Opera
"Nova" and the Polish Theatre attract many art
lovers. The citizens of Bydgoszcz proudly participate
in concerts in the Pomeranian Philharmonic, in
music festivals. The inhabitants of the city and their
guests often visit cozy pubs, cafeterias and music
clubs and enjoy their unique atmosphere.
The citizens of Bydgoszcz combine their interest in
culture with their passion for sports. Sports in
Bydgoszcz is not only professional, local sport, even
though it is on the highest level in Poland, but it is
also sport that presents superb European or world
sport events.

OUR SCHOOL
High School nr 9 in Bydgoszcz was
established 3rd July 1991. Having its seat
on Jana Sobieskiego Street, it created first
bilingual class in the region taught
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry,
Biology and Music in English.
Simultaneously, in the same year it began
to realize an International Students
Exchange Program, which lasts until
today. Next date worth remembering is
September 2002 when our school changes
its place onto Nalkowska Street 9 where
together with Junior high School nr 17 it
creates Zespól Szkól nr 4. All the duties
are now under rules of headmistress Ewa
Nowińska. In 2006 High School nr 9
receives an International Baccalaureate
accreditation.
The Comenius program itself, is being carried
out for the fifth time in our school. This time,
the activities following the theme “the energy
way: a path connecting cultures, a link forging
Europe’s stakes, a step to an European
sustainable citizenship” will be realized within
t next two years. The students of our school
hosted foreign students from Italy, Slovakia
and Romania and still participate in practices
developing their knowledge on acquiring and
using energy.
