Fellow Classmates Well, the hardest part of the semester is over and we now get to look forward to finals. I hope all of you have done well and will be continuing the journey with us.

Many thanks to Alicia for getting our Happy Hour together. You can find a copy of the flyer on the website. Contact Alicia if you have any questions.

Remember, there will be some info sessions in May and June for the next group of starting students. Our goal is to have representatives from the different majors at each session. We hope to have sessions at Bldg. 200 and Bldg. 500. If you are willing to help out let me know and I will keep a list of names to give to David. Don’t forget about referrals!!

Should you have any questions, concerns, or ideas feel free to contact me. Until then, I remain Sincerely Yours, Johnathan Foster SE-IV Class President x32679

Dsichulu Lakil Foster, DC for short, was born in Washington DC. He is the youngest of six children. Later, his family moved to Clinton, Maryland. DC was a three year starter on his high school’s varsity football team. He earned All-State, All-Region, All-County, and All-Metropolitan accolades. Upon high school graduation, DC received a full-scholarship to play football at Division II Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. He received several awards including Academic All-America recognition. DC received his Bachelor of Science degree in applied mathematics in May of 2003. The first time DC ever even came to the state of Texas was to interview with Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company. He hired on shortly after and has been employed as a Systems Engineering Associate for the past year. DC tutors high school students in math all the time, and he absolutely loves it.

His hopes are to one day coach high school football and teach high school math.

DC is a published poet and he love to write all types of stuff in his spare time, which he claims isn’t much these days.

So, if down the road… you see his name as the writer on the credits of a movie, don’t be surprised!!!

DC says, “Go MUSTANGS!!!”

Kerlin Josaphat

Kerlin was born in Haiti and migrated to the United States (Florida) at the age of 15. This beautiful Island located just 80 km east of Cuba continues to be overshadowed by political turmoil despite being the first black republic to gain its independence from France in 1804. It was not until December of 1990 that the Haitian people were able to elect their first democratically elected President. Nonetheless, the government was overthrown by a violent coup six months later. Thus, Haitians find themselves in a familiar situation at the present moment and the sad reality is that in the 200th year anniversary of their supposed independence from France, they are right back where they started in 1804.

Kerlin is fluent in both French and Creole. He attended high school in the state and struggled to learn the English language. In high school, he lettered in soccer, track and cross country. After graduating high school in 1994, he was accepted to Florida A & M University but instead opted to attend a two year community college to better prepare himself and help reduce the challenges that he, as a foreigner, would be facing in the state university system. Upon the completion of his two year degree, Kerlin transferred to the University of Florida to continue his education

Later in his sophomore year, he became fascinated with the Electrical Engineering (EE) discipline and decided to focus his attention on pursuing an EE degree instead. While at UF, Kerlin utilized the opportunity to participate in the electrical engineering department’s Co-op program to gain valuable work experience. He spent a year and a half working for the cell phone giant ...

There, he debugged functional test equipment used in the manufacturing of Ericsson mobile phones and also assisted with the factory changeover to a new product line. Kerlin tested and programmed several of Ericsson’s radios and other data applications. In addition, he helped write a technical document for an Ericsson network driver.

In the spring of 2000, Kerlin returned to UF to finish his education. He started working on his senior design project, which was a company sponsored project through the Integrated Product and Process Design (IPPD) program over two semesters. The IPPD allows graduating seniors an option to perform an industry sponsored project in a multi- disciplinary

team as their senior design. From August 2000 and April 2001, he and his teammates worked to complete the project for Intersil Corporation. In the Summer of 2001, he graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation, he joined Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Fort Worth, TX as a Systems Engineer. He currently works for the JSF program at the Air System (AS) level. He helps manage the Requirement Work Package (RWP) process and performs requirements allocations from the contract specification to the lower IPTs in order to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

In his spare time, Kerlin enjoys playing basketball, soccer, and playing Madden 2004 on his PS2. He continues to participate into the JSF Soccer tournament every 4th of July. The highlight of this event is the opportunity for the United States to compete against our British partners in a friendly game of Soccer...THE REAL FOOTBALL!!! However, for two straight years now, the US has struggled to defeat the Brits and Kerlin has carried the US team in defeat. He anticipates the US to be victorious during this year’s tournament, which will take place during the weekend of 4th of July. All are invited to attend. Last December, Kerlin took his first real vacation since joining Lockheed Martin in 2001 by spending a week at the US Virgin Island of St.Thomas.

Team Questions

What do I need to do for tuition reimbursement? (REPRINT)

Begin by downloading Form c-551 from the Corporate forms library. Fill out all of the personal information. You will need to go to the following SMU website http://engr.smu.edu/emis/Executive_Programs/EMSSE/emsse.html

and print course descriptions for all classes in the Executive Master’s curriculum. Also print out the program description from the above web page. The cost per class is $2287.50. You know what you paid for your books, so include that cost on the form. Also, request reimbursement for your application fee. Mail this packet of information to EFS (address on form) for preliminary approval.

You will need to include the $2500 deposit fee on this form.

Through some additional research, this fee is part of actual tuition. SMU understands that tuition rates will increase by 3-7% a semester. To keep our tuition standard for the remaining semesters, the $2500 fee will be required this first semester. After the two lines of class tuition, add a line for tuition deposit and application fee. Include the word document from David that explains the tuition deposit. This requirement will no longer occur after this semester. Yes, EFS will cover this. This will put you over the $5250 mark, so be sure and add a piece of paper requesting full tax exemption. I emailed all of you the description for SE Tools. If you have misplaced it let me know and I will resend it.

If you have any questions you would like addressed for the next newsletter, please submit to one of the people below. If you have ideas for social gatherings, ideas for spending out monetary allotment, or want to volunteer for social events or newsletter work, let Johnathan know. Thanks.
