The Acropolis of Athens was build in 450
B.C. It is an ancient citadel located on a high
rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and
containing the remains of several ancient
buildings of great architectural and historic
significance,; the most famous being the
Parthenon. The word acropolis comes from
the Greek words ἄκρον and πόλις .
Although there are many other acropolis in
Greece, the significance of the Acropolis of
Athens is such that it is commonly known as
"The Acropolis" without qualification.
The Acropolis was formally proclaimed as
the preeminent monument on the
European Cultural Heritage list of
monuments on 26 March 2007.

The dark place of Persephone and
Hades is in an underground
chamber carved in the rock;
possibly at the side of primary cave
with prehistoric cult. The most
famous nekromanteio for the dead
of the ancient Greek world is found
near the village Mesopotamos . To
the nekromanteio the ancient
Greeks brought libations, honorary
offerings to the dead, including
wine, honey and water in order to
communicate with the souls of
their lost relatives.

Almost every Greek city had a theatre because plays
were part of many religious festivals. The Greeks
enjoyed singing and dancing. At first, theatres were
only used for festivals.
The theatres were built on hillsides in the open air
and could often hold more than 18,000 spectators.
They were built in a semi-circular shape with rows
of tiered stone seating around it. The shape of the
theatres gave everyone in the audience excellent
viewing and also meant they could hear the actors
well too. In the centre of the theatre was a circular
dancing floor (orchestra), with an altar for sacrifices
dedicated to Dionysus. The stage was a raised area
within this circle.
All the actors were men. They wore large masks that
exaggerated facial features and emotions. The
mouth hole was large to help amplify the voices.
Greek plays were either comedies or tragedies.
Tragedies were often about the past, whereas
comedies tended to be about current and everyday
life. Actors in comedies wore bright colours. Actors
in tragedies wore dark colours.
Plays were either spoken or sung in rhyme.

In Greek mythology, Delphi was the site of the
Delphic oracle, the most important oracle in the
classical Greek world, and a major site for the
worship of the god Apollo.
Apollo's sacred precinct in Delphi was a
panhellenic sanctuary, where every four years,
starting in 776 BC athletes from all over the
Greek world competed in the Pythian Games,
one of the four panhellenic games, precursors
of the Modern Olympics. The victors at Delphi
were presented with a laurel crown which was
ceremonially cut from a tree by a boy who
reenacted the slaying of the Python. Delphi was
set apart from the other games sites because it
hosted the musical competitions.
