Metal Working
Metal Working
The term “Metal Working” generally refers
to process of; joining, bending, casting,
and cutting metal.
Joining
Joining metal most commonly refers to
fastening two or more pieces together.
They can be joined by:
– Mechanical Fasteners
– Chemical Adhesives
– Welding
Mechanical Fasteners
Mechanical fasteners are: Any fastener
that is held in place by force.
Chemical Adhesives
The most common
chemical adhesives in
metal working are
epoxies. They are a twopart adhesive that cures
(dries) by chemical
interaction between the
two parts. These are
some of the strongest
adhesives available.
Welding
To join (metals) by applying heat,
sometimes with pressure and sometimes
with an intermediate or filler metal having
a high melting point.
Bending
Depends on the type of metal, ie. Tubing,
sheet metal, band iron, etc.
Casting
Cast metal - To pour a molten metal into a
mold.
Cutting Metal
Metal can be cut many different ways,
each type of metal has a “best” way.
