Listen To My Dance Moves By: Clarence McAdory Sr. DANCE Content Area: Dance Grade Level: 6th-8th Summary: The purpose of this instructional Power Point is to teach students to identify dances and moods. Learning Objective: Students will be able to identify dances and their meaning without communication. Content Standard: Creativity and Communication Standard 3.0 Students will understand dance is a way to create and communicate meaning. Learning Expectation/ Accomplishment: 3.1 Understands that dance heightens self awareness and communicate meaning. Recognition of ideas, thoughts, concepts and /or feelings that could be expressed through dance. DANCE • IDEAS- Dance ideas are developed through visual contact of a particular move or situation. • THOUGHTS- Thoughts are collected and transmitted to express a desire to finish the idea. • CONCEPTS- Concepts are then introduced through repetition. • FEELINGS- Are the end result of the above three put into motion. www.wikipedia.org/wiki/interpretive_dance Recognizing Ideas and Thoughts: Desk # 1 through #16(Group A)--List two ideas on a sheet of paper of what the dancer may be saying. Explain your answer. Desk #17 through #30(Group B)---List two thoughts that the dancer may be thinking. Explain your answer. Group A and Group B exchange papers. Tell the class if you understand ideas and thoughts listed by your classmates. Recognizing Feelings: Each student write down the feelings expressed in the pictures and give an example from a personal event. Come to the front of the class and explain. DANCE IMAGES-Visual descriptions that relate to ones mood. SOUNDS- Beats and noise that relate to dance moves. VARYING MOVEMENTS- The effect of different sounds and feelings. IMAGES Select and image and write down what first comes to your mind. Images Now, relate that image to a short dance. The dance must include all facial expressions and attitudes. Start with Row #1 SOUNDS On the next slide you will see several images. Once the sound is played, pick which image best describes what mood relates to the song. You can only make one selection. SOUNDS Recognizing Dance Movements On the next screen you will see a dance group perform a dance that is not within the parameters of the studio they are in. Describe in a short essay what dance movements are shown compared to the environment. Also describe the mood of the participants. The essay must have good descriptions of behavior and styles. CONCLUSION You have just learned how to interpret dance with ideas, thoughts, concepts and feelings. Also, you should now have an understanding on how to identify moods and sound in relation to dancing and emotions. Continue to practice on images in your daily life with your family.
