Bicarbonate
Bicarbonate is a truly strong universal concentrated
nutritional medicine that works effectively in many
clinical situations that we would not normally think of.
It is a prime emergency room and intensive care
medicine that can save a person’s life in a heartbeat
and it is also a supermarket item that you can take
right off the shelf and use for more things than one can
imagine – including diaper rash.
An emergency room doctor, when one of his patient’s
blood is boiling with acidity, will push bicarbonate into
the bloodstream to save his patient’s life.
Doctors who reject the use of sodium bicarbonate are
actually doctors who do not know much about
medicine.
Many prominent physicians have suggested that great
benefits would result if the men and women of America
were shown that Bicarbonate of Soda (baking soda)
could be used in the home as a therapeutic agent.
Fire has an insatiable appetite; it grows as it feeds; a
glass of water may extinguish it in the early moments of
its life, but it may grow beyond human power or skill to
check when it becomes half an hour old.
Sickness resembles fire; it grows as it feeds; the right
remedy may extinguish it in the first few hours of this
life, but if it once “grips” the system it may grow
beyond human power or skill to master.
An essential characteristic of an illness is its tendency
to spread from one point to another in the human
body and for single symptoms to rapidly develop a
group of symptoms.
Bicarbonate of Soda is not a cure-all. Its field of
usefulness as a home remedy is limited to well-defined
ailments.
But, it has been proven by time and experience as a
most effective preventive and remedy for a surprisingly
large percentage of the ailments most common among
the civilized races.
BAKING SODA, (Bicarbonate of Soda), is a white
crystalline substance, less soluble than sodium
carbonate and having only a slight alkaline taste, used
in cookery, in baking powders and in medicine.
Sodium Bicarbonate is used in medicine as an antacid
(an alkaline remedy for stomach acidity), and, on
account of the large amount of carbon dioxide that is
readily set free from it by acids or by heating, it is an
important component of powders and effervescing
mixtures, and of baking powders.
Sodium bicarbonate alkalinizes the blood and
secretions, and is used as a corrective in functional
diseases of the stomach.
With appropriately monitored administration through
baths and oral intake, one easily gets the urine up to
the ideal cancer-treating pH of eight. It is the sweet
spot to get the greatest therapeutic effect against
cancer and other serious diseases including the flu.
In 1918 and 1919 while fighting the ‘Flu’ it was found
that rarely anyone who had been thoroughly
alkalinized with Bicarbonate of Soda contracted the
disease, and those who did contract it, if alkalinized
early, would invariably have mild attacks.
Bicarbonate of Soda is of inestimable value in treating
Alimentary Intoxication, Pyelitis (inflammation of the
pelvis), Hyper-Acidity of urine, uric acid disturbance,
rheumatism and burns. An occasional three-day course
of Bicarbonate of Soda increases the resisting power of
the body to all Infectious Diseases.
The value of the World’s famous Spas and Health
Springs in largely in the Alkalinity of the water.
The great advantage to using oral bicarbonate
(reinforced by strong magnesium and bicarbonate
baths) is that one can dose during waking hours and
receive a full course of treatment in about ten days.
Anyone can drive up their pH and saturate all their cells
to a much higher extent through these methods. This is
in contrast to Dr. Simoncini’s method that uses the
blood for delivery and thus changing the pH is strictly
limited by enforced blood parameters.
Exactly how high the pH is driven up using bicarbonate
orally can be controlled simply by using pH test strips.
One can do this continuously for up to ten days keeping
the optimal anti-cancer pH level constant.
Using sodium and potassium bicarbonates (seawater
offers a parallel reinforcing treatment) involves
increasing carbon dioxide levels, which increases
oxygen levels as well as cell voltage—something not
generally known or understood.
The effect of an alkali in the stomach will vary
according to the nature of the stomach contents at the
time of its administration.
In the resting period (after food is digested) sodium
bicarbonate merely dissolves mucus and is absorbed as
bicarbonate into the blood, to increase its alkalinity
directly.
In the digestive period it reduces the secretion of
gastric juice, neutralizes a portion of the hydrochloric
acid, liberates the carminative carbon dioxide gas, and
is absorbed as sodium chloride.
In cases of fermentative indigestion, it can neutralize
organic acids and open a spasmodically-closed pyloric
valve; while at the same time overcoming flatulence
(accumulation of gas in the stomach and bowels).
The time of administration must be chosen with a
definite purpose; for fermentative indigestion, one or
two hours after meals will be the period of harmful
excess of acid.
In first-aid for continuous hyperacidity and
fermentative indigestion, a dose an hour before meals
will prepare the stomach for the next meal; or
sometimes a dose may be necessary immediately after
eating, because of fermentative acid present at
commencement of the meal from a previous
undigested meal.
For the average person one-half hour after meals is
recommended.
A dose at bedtime tends to check the early morning
acidity, or a dose on arising cleans the stomach of acid
and mucus before breakfast.
Whenever taking a bicarbonate solution internally the
soda should be dissolved in cold water.
CANCER
The medical community continues to remain in
ignorance about the most basic substances and how
they might affect the outcome of cancer.
The bicarbonate ion is amphoteric, meaning that it can
behave as either an acid or a base, depending on what
it reacts with.
If a bicarbonate ion is combined with an acid, then it
behaves as a base.
H+ + HCO3- <==> H2O + CO2
…and carbon dioxide is liberated.
If bicarbonate is combined with a base, then it behaves
as an acid.
OH- + HCO3- <==> HOH + CO3
We normally think of it as a base because it raises the
pH of water by accepting a proton:
HCO3- + H2O <==> H2CO3 + OH-
But if you add bicarbonate to a strongly basic solution,
it actually lowers the pH by donating a proton.
HCO3- + OH- <==> CO3 (2-) + H2O
The best combination is to take sodium bicarbonate
with potassium bicarbonate because it not only makes
it easy to take your bicarbonate but you also get the
needed potassium, which is very helpful for cancer
patients and everyone else.
High levels of potassium can cause muscle weakness,
numbness and tingling, abnormal heart rhythm, muscle
paralysis, trouble breathing, and even heart failure and
death.
Very high white blood cell or blood platelet counts can
cause an artificial increase in potassium in a test
sample after the blood is drawn.
When a patient raises CO2 levels by using bicarbonate
or breath retraining, they raise O2 levels as well as pH
and cell voltage.
Sodium bicarbonate is very easy to use in baths, orally
or when nebulizing into the lungs when treating lung
cancer.
It goes right for the jugular of tumors as well as
individual cancer cells because it pulls the rug right out
from under them.
Sodium bicarbonate aims for the heart of cancer by
almost instantly increasing cell pH, cell voltage, cell
oxygen as well as CO2 levels.
It’s the CO2 that creates the ideal medical effect of
sodium bicarbonate. It’s CO2 that dilates the vessels so
more O2 is delivered and that is just one effect of
increased CO2 levels.
Cancer hates oxygen as well as disliking an alkaline pH,
so to dismiss baking soda as a treatment for cancer is
ludicrous.
Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) is as common as
aspirin in pharmacies world over but even the most
intelligent doctors fail to see it as the powerhouse
medicine that it is.
Tumor cells perform niche engineering by creating an
acidic environment that is non-toxic to the malignant
cells but, through its negative effects on normal cells
and tissue, promotes local invasion.
A number of studies have shown that the extracellular
pH in cancers is typically lower than that in normal
tissue and that an acidic pH promotes invasive tumor
growth in primary and metastatic cancers.
The external pH of solid tumors is acidic as a
consequence of increased metabolism of glucose and
poor perfusion.
Acid pH has been shown to stimulate tumor cell
invasion and metastasis in vitro and in cells before tail
vein injection in vivo.
Increased systemic concentrations of pH buffers lead to
reduced intratumoral and peritumoral acidosis and, as
a result, inhibit malignant growth.
Increased serum concentrations of sodium bicarbonate
(NaHCO3) can be achieved via oral intake.
Reduction of tumor acid concentrations significantly
reduces tumor growth and invasion without altering
the pH of blood or normal tissues.
Oral NaHCO3 selectively increased the pH of tumors
and reduced the formation of spontaneous metastases
in mouse models of metastatic breast cancer.
NaHCO3 therapy also reduces the rate of lymph node
involvement and significantly reduces the formation of
hepatic metastases.
Acid pH is shown to increase the release of active
cathepsin B, an important matrix remodeling protease.
Bicarbonate turns to CO2 easily when dissolved in
water as it enters the stomach but few know that
cancerous tissue turns bicarbonate into carbon dioxide.
All cancer has a lower pH, meaning it is more acidic
than surrounding tissue. In more acidic tumors, more
bicarbonate is converted into carbon dioxide.
KIDNEYS
Sodium bicarbonate is not only an excellent agent for
natural chemotherapy, bringing higher O2 levels
through increased alkalinity to the cells, it is also one of
the most basic medicines we have for kidney disease.
Sodium bicarbonate can dramatically slow the progress
of chronic kidney disease.
Bicarbonate acts to stimulate the ATPase by acting
directly on it.
The simple household product used for baking,
cleaning, bee stings, treating asthma, cancer and acid
indigestion is so effective in treating kidney disease
that it prevents patients from having to be put on
kidney machines.
The findings have been published in the Journal of the
American Society of Nephrology.
A dialysis technician at the Renal Hypertension Unit in
Tampa Florida, who was on dialysis himself for 2 years
as a result of kidney failure, had his kidneys
miraculously start functioning to the point where
dialysis was no longer needed. He took oral doses of
sodium bicarbonate throughout his treatment, and still
takes it daily to prevent recurrences of kidney failure.
Not everyone will be helped by taking bicarbonate, but
those patients who have difficulty excreting acids, even
with dialysis using a bicarbonate dialysate bath, oral
bicarbonate makes all the difference.
The exocrine section of the pancreas has been greatly
ignored in the treatment of diabetes even though its
impairment is a well documented condition.
The pancreas is primarily
responsible for the
production of enzymes
and bicarbonate
necessary for normal
digestion of food.
Bicarbonate is so
important for protecting
the kidneys that even the
kidneys get into the act of
producing bicarbonate
and now we know the
common denominator
between diabetes and
kidney disease.
The kidneys alone produce about two hundred and
fifty grams (about half a pound) of bicarbonate per day
in an attempt to neutralize acid in the body.
When the body is hit with reductions in bicarbonate
output by these two organs, acid conditions build and
the entire body physiology begins to suffer.
Likewise, when acid buildup outstrips these organs’
normal bicarbonate capacity, cellular deterioration
begins.
The kidneys monitor and control the acidity or “acidbase” (pH) balance of the blood. If the blood is too
acidic, the kidney makes bicarbonate to restore blood
pH balance. If the blood is too alkaline, then the kidney
excretes bicarbonate into the urine to restore balance.
Acid-base balance is the net result of two processes,
first, the removal of bicarbonate subsequent to
hydrogen ion production from the metabolism of
dietary constituents; second, the synthesis of “new”
bicarbonate by the kidney.
Normal adults, eating ordinary Western diets, have
chronic, low-grade acidosis which increases with age.
This excess acid, or acidosis, contributes to many
diseases and contributes to the aging process.
Acidosis occurs often when the body cannot produce
enough bicarbonate ions (or other alkaline
compounds) to neutralize the acids in the body, formed
from metabolism and drinking highly acid drinks like
Coke, Pepsi, and even some bottled mineral water are
way too acidic.
Acid-buffering by means of base supplementation is
one of the major roles of dialysis.
Bicarbonate concentration in the dialysate (electrolyte
bath) that passes through the artificial kidney to
remove excess fluids and wastes from the blood,
should be personalized in order to reach a midweek
pre-dialysis serum bicarbonate concentration of 22
mmol/l.
Use of sodium bicarbonate in dialysate has been shown
in studies to better control some metabolic aspects and
to improve both treatment tolerance and patients’ life
quality.
Bicarbonate dialysis, unlike acetate-free biofiltration,
triggers mediators of inflammation and apoptosis.
One of the main reasons we become acid is from overconsumption of protein.
Mineral deficiencies are another reason and when you
combine high protein intake with decreasing intake of
minerals you have a disease in the making, through
lowering of pH into highly acidic conditions. When
protein breaks down in our bodies they break into
strong acids.
Unless a treatment actually removes acid toxins from
the body and increases oxygen, water, and nutrients
most medical interventions come to naught.
These acids must be excreted by the kidneys because
they contain sulfur, phosphorus or nitrogen which
cannot break down into water and carbon dioxide to
be eliminated as the weak acids are.
In their passage through the kidneys, these strong acids
take a basic mineral with them, because in this way
they are converted into their neutral salts, and don’t
burn the kidneys on their way out. This would happen
if these acids were excreted in their free acid form.
Bicarbonate ions neutralize the acid conditions
required for chronic inflammatory reactions.
Sodium bicarbonate is of benefit in the treatment of a
range of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune
diseases. Sodium bicarbonate is a well-studied and
used medicine, with known effects.
Sodium bicarbonate is effective in treating poisonings
or overdoses from many chemicals and pharmaceutical
drugs by negating their cardiotoxic and neurotoxic
effects.
It is the main reason it is used by orthodox oncology –
to mitigate the highly toxic effects of chemotherapy.
Sodium bicarbonate possesses the property of
absorbing heavy metals, dioxins and furans.
Comparison of cancer tissue with healthy tissue from
the same person shows that the cancer tissue has a
much higher concentration of toxic chemicals,
pesticides, etc.
Sodium bicarbonate injection is indicated in the
treatment of metabolic acidosis, which may occur in
severe renal disease, uncontrolled diabetes, and
circulatory insufficiency due to shock or severe
dehydration, extracorporeal circulation of blood,
cardiac arrest and severe primary lactic acidosis.
The acid/alkaline balance is one of the most
overlooked aspects of allopathic medicine. In general,
the American public is heavily acid, excepting
vegetarians, and even their bodies have to face
increasing levels of toxic exposure, which help turn the
body to acidic pH conditions.
DIABETES
Rather than focusing on the tissues or organs, we
concentrate on the fluids that surround the tissues and
organs. The cells or organs are only as healthy as the
fluids in which they are bathed in.
A highly acidic pH level (created by all the above) puts
the pancreas, liver, and all the body’s organs at risk.
Because of the important role played by the liver in
removing acid waste from the body, liver function is
particularly at risk when acids accumulate.
When acidity prevents the liver and pancreas from
regulating blood sugar, the risk of diabetes will
increase.
From prevention to treatment, and to part of a cure,
common Baking Soda is an essential tool in working
with diabetic and metabolic syndromes.
It does not take the place of an alkaline diet and water
but bicarbonate is a front line medicine that doctors
and patients can employ orally and transdermally in
baths.
Low grade chronic metabolic acidosis exists normally in
humans eating ordinary diets, and the degree of
acidosis increases with age.
Sodium bicarbonate injections are already indicated in
the treatment of metabolic acidosis, which may occur
in severe renal disease, uncontrolled diabetes, and
circulatory insufficiency due to shock or severe
dehydration, extracorporeal circulation of blood,
cardiac arrest and severe primary lactic acidosis.
But sodium bicarbonate can be used safely at home
orally and transdermally (and should always be used
with magnesium chloride for greatest effect) in all
stages of diabetes.
We have been forced to turn an evolutionary corner.
Our bodies are so overwhelmed with cellular acidwaste that we simply do not handle acid waste the way
we used to.
Excess acidity is a condition that weakens all body
systems. Excess acidity forces the body to borrow
minerals – including sodium, calcium, potassium and
magnesium – from vital organs and bones to buffer
(neutralize) the acid and to safely remove it from the
body.
As a result, the body can suffer severe and prolonged
‘corrosion’ due to high acidity – a condition that may
go undetected for years.
Over-acidity affects virtually every person in Western
societies because of our dietary and lifestyle choices and
ecological exposure –creating our own “internal
environment” where dis-ease can easily manifest, as
opposed to a pH-balanced environment which allows for
normal body functions – necessary for the body to resist
dis-ease.
The pancreas is one of
our body’s organs
charged with the
awesome responsibility
to “alkalinize” us … can
you start to see how our
serious acidosis has
overwhelmed our
pancreas’ ability to
operate effectively, that
then results in a state
called “diabetes.”
Not only does high acidity make you vulnerable to
diabetes. The impact of diabetes on the body increases
the level of acid waste.
Therefore improper pH balance puts diabetics at
greater risk for complications such as kidney failure,
gangrene and blindness.
A diabetic suffers from an excess of glucose in the
bloodstream, glucose that cannot be delivered
properly to the body’s cells due to lack of insulin.
As the liver absorbs more and more of the excess
glucose, its ability to remove toxins from the body
becomes impaired. As the toxins multiply, the acid
level in the body increases.
Because glucose is not delivered properly to the body’s
cells, the cells start to malfunction. They expel
increasing amounts of acid waste.
Some of the excess acid filters through the kidneys,
causing damage that can lead to kidney failure.
Some of the acid accumulates in the liver, further
damaging the liver’s ability to remove toxins.
Acid that is not filtered out or stored can attach to and
harden the cell walls, further preventing the cells from
absorbing nutrients.
Eventually the cells die, starting with the glucosedependent eyes and the extremities where it’s more
difficult for nutrients to reach. Blindness and gangrene
can result.
Many different causes exist for the disease called Renal
Tubular Acidosis which also causes the blood to
become too acidic and leads to kidney failure if not
treated early.
Without proper treatment, chronic acidity of the blood
leads to growth retardation, kidney stones, bone
disease, chronic kidney disease, and possibly total
kidney failure.
In all cases, the first goal of therapy is to neutralize acid
in the blood, and this is done with IV and oral sodium
bicarbonate, though different treatments may be
needed to address the different underlying causes of
acidosis.
A significant reduction of acids in your body can lead to
organ regeneration and improved health.
A diet that’s more alkaline can help you reverse the
damage caused by acidity and diabetes.
The right combination of fresh vegetable juices, for
example, can help your body break down and destroy
excessive acid waste.
For a doubly-positive impact, eliminate refined
carbohydrates from your diet. Not only do refined
carbohydrates make it difficult to control your blood
sugar balance, but they also increase your body’s acidity.
Vitamin and mineral supplements specially formulated
to balance pH are an important part of your strategy
with spirulina, wheatgrass and barley juice on top of
the list in this regard. These are actually the best full
spectrum vitamin and mineral supplements. Real food,
not synthetic supplements, are hugely more effective.
