14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have
seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the
Father, full of grace and truth.

John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of
whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because
he was before me.' " 16From the fullness of his grace we have all

1 Peter 2.19
19
For it is commendable [gracefulness] if a man bears up under the
pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God.
19
For this is thankworthy [gracefulness], if a man for conscience
toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. (KJV)
1 Peter 2, mc 1 Peter 2.13-25, vv 2.19
Luke 2.51-52
51
Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to
them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52And
Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor [grace] with God and
men.
51
And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was
subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52And
Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour [grace]
with God and man. (KJV)
Luke 2, mc Luke 2.41-52, vv 2.51-52
Luke 4.22
22
All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that
came from his lips. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" they asked.
What words?
What makes his speech gracious?
Luke 4, mc Luke 4.14-30, vv 4.22
Luke 4.14-17
14
Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about
him spread through the whole countryside. 15He taught in their
synagogues, and everyone praised him.
16
He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the
Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And
he stood up to read.
17
The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he
found the place where it is written:
Luke 4, mc Luke 4.14-30, vv 4.14-17
Luke 4.20-23
20
Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat
down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on
him, 21and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is
fulfilled in your hearing."
22
All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that
came from his lips. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" they asked.
23
Jesus said to them, "Surely you will quote this proverb to me:
'Physician, heal yourself! Do here in your hometown what we have
heard that you did in Capernaum.' "
Luke 4, mc Luke 4.14-30, vv 4.20-23
John 3.20-21
20
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the
light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by
the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what
he has done has been done through God."
John 3, mc John 3.10-21, vv 3.20-21
John 8.27-32
27
They did not understand that he was telling them about his Father.
28
So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you
will know that I am the one I claim to be and that I do nothing on my
own but speak just what the Father has taught me. 29The one who
sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what
pleases him." 30Even as he spoke, many put their faith in him.
31
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my
teaching, you are really my disciples. 32Then you will know the truth,
and the truth will set you free."
John 8, mc John 8.12-58, vv 8.27-32
John 17.14-19
14
I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they
are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15My prayer is
not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them
from the evil one. 16They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.
17Sanctify
them by the truth; your word is truth. 18As you sent me into
the world, I have sent them into the world. 19For them I sanctify
myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
19
And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be
sanctified through the truth. (KJV)
John 17, mc John 17.1-26, vv 17.14-19
