General IT Info
University courses are delivered entirely or in part through computermediated learning; therefore, it is imperative that students have
access to computer systems that meet the minimum requirements
outlined at http://www.regent.edu/it/standards.html
Regent University does not teach or train students in basic computer
use outside of specific undergraduate courses. Technical questions
concerning personal hardware, software, or telecommunication
support should be directed to appropriate vendor(s).
There are 4 computer labs on campus for student use. Although labs
are open when the University is open, labs can be reserved and
unavailable at times.
Wireless Internet access is available in all buildings.
Regent Email
Important Overview
• The official means by which Regent’s faculty and staff
communicate with you
• Important messages from your professors, advisors, and
others will be in this email
• You are responsible for checking daily (M-F)
• You are responsible for responding to any inquiry from any
Regent faculty or staff
• Email should not be ignored
• Email is not akin to texting, tweeting, or Facebook messages
Degree-seeking
vs
Non-degree seeking
Early College = Non-degree
What does this mean?
Since you are designated primarily as a high school or home school student,
you will be a non-degree seeking student while enrolled in the Early
College program. The primary purpose of this program is to help high school
and home school students complete their respective diplomas, not to get a
college degree.
What’s different?
• You receive a discounted tuition rate
• You do not have a “catalog year” – that is, starting in a particular year does
not hold your place in that catalog
• You will not earn a degree from Regent while still enrolled in your school
• Some student programs are not available to you
Early College = Non-degree
Of course, however, you still must…
•
•
•
•
•
Complete all requirements found in the course’s syllabus (i.e., courses are
taught at a college level and typically require more work)
Adhere to the conduct code (e.g., academic integrity, Christ-like behavior)
Abide by university policies (e.g., attendance and participation, etc.).
Follow university procedures
Submit payments and required paper work by their deadlines
In the end…
•
•
•
You can expect a challenging and rewarding learning experience
Courses completed at Regent will appear on a non-degree student transcript
All course grades will be reflected, including grades of “W” “WF,” and “I.”

Academic Rigor
Most courses at Regent involve significant reading and writing assignments.

different for each student, bear in mind the following:
8-week courses
• 8-week courses are full 15/16-week courses compressed into 8 weeks
• Most students complete coursework in 14-17 hours/week
• 8-week courses have assignments due in the first week
• Most 8-week courses are offered online; few online course are 15/16-weeks*
• Successful students are typically organized and diligent and they work on
their projects early and consistently
*Some language classes are offered in online, full-semester formats

following two items must be part of the student’s file.

FERPA waiver is part of the required Admissions documentation for
enrollment in the Early College Program. Additional information here.

FERPA
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974
Parental Access (page 53 of The Regent Undergraduate Catalog, 2012-2013)
The definition of “Student” under FERPA refers to a person who either has reached
the age of 18 or who is attending an institution of post-secondary education. At the
post-secondary level, parents have no inherent rights to inspect student
records; this right is limited solely to the student. It is the University’s policy to
release academic or financial information to parents and/or guardians of students
(whether or not the student has reached the age of 18) only upon the student’s
written authorization. The student may complete a “Student Information Release”
(FERPA Waiver), available in the Registrar’s Office or online at
http://www.regent.edu/admin/registrar/studentforms.cfm, to grant this
authorization.
Textbooks
http://www.regent.edu/bookstore
Textbook requirements for registered courses can be accessed through the
University Bookstore online or on-campus. You will need the course ID
(ENGL 101), section number, and the course reference number (CRN). This
information is available on the Semester Course Schedule.
Students may purchase new or used textbooks, rent textbooks, or purchase
electronic copies (when available). If purchasing texts from other sources, be
sure that the textbooks are the same edition and that they provide any
electronic material that may have been with the original purchase.
Students can also view textbook requirements in the courses’ syllabus.
