The COMPETITION

Formula SAE® is a student design
competition organized by SAE
International.


The first competition was started back in 1981 and now
includes annual events in Michigan, Lincoln Nebraska,
New Hampshire (Hybrid), and Austria, Australia, Brazil,
Germany, Italy, Japan and the U.K.
The CONCEPT

The Formula SAE competition is for SAE student members to
conceive, design, fabricate, and compete with small formulastyle racing cars.
The VENUE

The Michigan event annually hosts 120 teams representing 10 countries

No passing in this “solo” event
Avg Speeds = 35 to 40 MPH
ENDURANCE and FUEL ECONOMY





Course Length ~ 1.0 Kilometer
Total run = 2 x 11 laps
2 drivers per car / Driver change midway
Typically 5-7 cars on the track concurrently
Passing within designated passing zones
Avg speed = 35 MPH / Approx top speed = 65 MPH
