New Stairs & Updated Railings!
• The old stair tool is still there. • New stair tool is “component based” – Broken down into parts and pieces – Addresses: • Overlapping Stair Runs • Divergent Stair Runs • More complex geometry o o Supports End geometry o Materials
Component Based Stairs
• Stair Construction Families (system) – Metal Pan/Wood (Assembled Stair) – Cast-In-Place Stair (Monolithic) – Precast Stair (Precast Stair)
Component Based Stairs
• Components (system families) – Supports – Stringers (
closed
) & Carriages ( Monolithic
open
) – Landings – Monolithic & Non – Runs – Monolithic & Non Monolithic – Cut Marks –
annotation elements, but part of the Stair Category
• Profiles – Tread, Riser, Nosing, Supports (
new profile types
)
Component Based Stairs
• Demo Time!!
Precast Stairs
• System Family • Default uses same run type as
Monolithic.
• Must pay attention to End & Begin
with Riser parameter for notch connection to work!
• Can be joined to (cut) floors. – Plan graphic issue (reported)
Object Styles/Visibility Graphics
• New Subcategories • Includes “annotation” elements. • Finer Level of Detail
Annotation Enhancements
• Select Filter Recognizes different
Subcategories.
• Some Annotation families are
System Families:
– Cut Lines – Stair Path – Stair Tread/Riser Number Tag • New & Improved Tags – Stair objects (Run, Landing, Support) – Stair (number of risers & treads) • Equality Formula (Dimensions)
Stair Paths
• More Flexible – Editable in Stair Sketch Mode – Adjustable Grips • View Dependent – Cannot Copy/Paste – Place New – Duplicate View with Detailing
Railing Improvements
• Railing transitions and extensions to top rails and handrails improvements. • Auto-placement of continuous rail elements. • Railing can be previewed during sketching.
Railing parameters
• There are now additional parameters to control railings. • You can include one or two Handrails – 1 & 2 • Handrails are driven by Type properties, but you can
override their type to make local edits.
Railing family type
• Understanding the family types is essential • Review the Project Browser to better understand the different families & their
structure
Railing Topology simplified Continuous Top rail Handrail 1 or 2 (handrail type system) Termination (family) Support (family)
Railing positions Top rail Handrail 1 Handrail 2
Railing Positions
• Be aware of this error! • In essence you have the same railing TYPE in the same position • You need to create a new railing TYPE for each of the Handrail parameters
1 & 2
The Basic Edit Rail process
• This works for continuous top rail & hand rail • • • • •
“Tab” select the rail The Edit Rail command becomes available from the Ribbon.
Choose Edit Rail, to modify the settings of the Rail To edit the Rail Path, choose the Edit Path icon, to make further edited Further tweaks can be made to the path if required, such as Filleting Joins.
Category Control
• With the Railing improvements, we now have increased list of railing
categories.
Construction - Transitions
• Improved transition, allowing better geometric joins of the rails. • None • Gooseneck • Simple
Extension – Extension Style
• Potential Extension Styles, possible at the top & bottom of a rail • These work for top rail & hand rails 1 & 2 • Wall • Post • Floor
Default Joins
• There are two options for Default Joins for railings • Miter • Fillet
Default Joins
• Be aware, “IF” your Fillet Radius is too big, fillet join will fail! • In the example below, a 10mm radius causes an error.
Supports & Terminations
• Supports & Terminations are new to Revit 2013 • They have their own unique category types • You build a Support or a Termination from a new family template • No obvious template! • Start with a generic model & then select the appropriate category • Terminations • Supports
Preview Railing
• When placing a railing, there is a new option; if “checked” allows you to
preview the railing as you sketch the path.
Enable Preview
