Summary
Congested Traffic on IH-35
Population Growth has a negative impact on
transportation.
Surrounding counties have population growth as
well. (see figure 1)
Trucking and through traffic have increased.

Purpose
Determine the reason for congestion
Where is traffic coming from?
Why is so much of it ending up on IH-35?
Where could Austin divert some of this traffic to?
Where is through traffic going to?
Scope
This study will look at counties surrounding and
including Travis County for their inputs into the
IH-35 congestion.

Methodology
Will use GIS framework to analyze/visualize the
Travis County IH-35 congestion problem.
Will offer possible solutions to add to TxDOT,
Austin division.
Will use joins, merges, unions, intersection,
buffers, spatial analyst, geocoding,
georeferencing, overlays, network analyst,
geostatistical analyst, and raster calculator
Implications
Current projects in Austin area will be studied for
their effect on the IH-35 Corridor.

Conclusion
We will model the flow of traffic from outside of
Travis county via IH-35.
Also, we will determine what route commuters
might be offered other than IH-35.
