Mike & Alicia become engaged
Kathy secures a job at the Glendale Public Library
Marie is selected as one of ten finalists for AIA Student
Athlete of the Year
Alex had been laid off from Lucent Technologies in late 2000.
This left him time to do some fix-ups around the house. His
first job was to remodel the second bathroom. It took a few
weeks to complete and required the assistance of
contractors. This experience was a clear indication that
major help was needed to get the house in shape if we ever
wanted to sell.
Many improvements were made over the next 7 years before
we sold the house and moved into something requiring less
maintenance.
June 2001 in Albuquerque was the last soccer tournament
we attended for Marie. Marie & Alex drove there together,
while Kathy flew a day later because of her new job. Marie
got to see her Mom’s childhood house in Gallup, New
Mexico on the drive back. We also had time to take the lift
up Sandia Mountain.
July 2001
Our friends the Farnsworth’s come over for a swimming party
In-laws Barb & John visit for the summer
Alicia & Mimi have their 23rd birthday. Alicia celebrates at the
Tilson’s.
We get a new cat and name him Mufasa. He is probably the most
people friendly pet we have ever had. We were heartbroken when
he disappeared several years later. We think someone in the
neighborhood was trapping animals. This event hastened our
desire to move away.
August 2001
The entire clan decides to vacation in Pinetop…bowling, Sunrise Park, golfing,
etc.
Summer is over and it’s time to move all of Marie’s stuff to USC in Los
Angeles!
September 2001
The USC semester started very roughly as there was an earthquake
and then the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. We weren’t
sure if we needed to drive to LA and bring Marie home. We finally
decided that she should go home with her roommate Jenna whose
family lived nearby if evacuation was necessary.
Our entire family had taken a trip to the East
Coast about 10 years earlier and one of our
visits was the WTC.
October 2001
It is Parent Day at USC, so we spend some time with Marie in different activities,
like sporting events, meals, etc. Mike & Alicia join us for the party.
November 2001
The girls decide to have a Mother/Daughter meal at First
Watch before they go off in different directions.
Thanksgiving is at our house.
Barb’s husband John and Alex’s
Aunt Doris pass away.
December 2001
Our annual Christmas dinner with Mickey & Pat and Don
& Darlene. This year Kathy & Alex picked Sapporo’s in
Scottsdale.
