AJUSA presentation
• Founded in 1972, AJUSA is today a world leader ICE components
manufacturer
• Exports 77% of production to 80 countries
• Headquarters in Albacete (Spain), branches in Los Angeles,
Mexico D.F., Sao Paulo, Moscow and Shanghai
• Most complete catalogue for Head Gaskets, Head Bolts,
Hydraulic Lifters and Camshafts

Unsustainable transport sector
• Transport sector emissions represent a high percentage of
the total pollutant emissions to the atmosphere
• Car industry is responsible for the transport sector to be the
one whose emissions have increased in the highest percentage
in the last few years
• Oil based fuels used in ICE emit huge amounts of greenhouse
gasses every year, day after day
• Situation is becoming critical in urban areas: Madrid city hall
has recently recommended not to practice any outdoor sports
until pollution levels decrease somehow (BUT HOW…?????)
• Additionally, seems like we are facing a new era of oil
scarcity: before 2015 demand might widely exceed supply

Car industry evolution
• Oil crisis, announced oil shortages, and the need to reduce CO2
emissions, will bring new technologies into the car industry for
vehicle propulsion, which will be very different from today’s ICE
• Hydrogen and PEM fuel cells: SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION
o Hydrogen: alternative fuel to oil based fuels. Will solve
environmental and supply problems, it is extremely clean
and inexhaustible
o PEM fuel cell: electrochemical device which transforms
the hydrogen energy content into electricity
• All main car manufacturers have developed hydrogen
electrical vehicle prototypes, running on PEM fuel cells.

AJUSA evolution
• If car industry evolves to new technologies, AJUSA must
evolve in the same way in order to keep its competitiveness in
the near future
• More than 10 years researching and developing hydrogen
technologies
• First PEM fuel cell manufacturer in Spain
• One of the main promoters of the hydrogen infrastructures in
Europe, basic for the implantation of the hydrogen economy

AJUSA adaptation:
PEM fuel cells
• 35 years of industrial experience, synergy of production
processes of four product lines and strong researching capacity:
development of optimal processes for manufacturing PEM fuel
cells
• Current manufacturing processes (machining, molding,
stamping, injection, sealing techniques…) are not difficult to
adapt to the requirements of the manufacturing processes of
the PEM fuel cells
• AJUSA is able to manufacture all the components of the PEM
fuel cell, ensemble the stack, and develop the required BOP to
supply power units for transport, stationary and portable
applications

Conclusions
• AJUSA’s Don Qhyxote Projects show that PEM fuel
cells and hydrogen technologies WORK
• Hydrogen technologies represent a viable solution to
present environmental problems
• Viability of hydrogen technologies depends on
cooperation between Governments and private industry
• A hydrogen economy will allow our society to
maintain social, economic and industrial growth in a
sustainable way

Future
• AJUSA will further promote its Don Qhyxote projects as
a sustainable alternative to current energy productionsupply models, in an effort to accelerate the
implantation of the hydrogen economy
• Hydrogen technologies introduces AJUSA in new
markets different from the car industry (stationary and
portable applications)
• NOIL: PEM fuel cell power units in 2008
• Look forward to new cooperation projects and
strategic alliances to keep developing hydrogen
technologies
