Polytechnical University was founded in 1899
Sergey Yu. Vitte – the Prime Minister of Russia
(1903-1906), initiated the idea of setting up
Polytechnic Institutes in St.Petersburg, Warsaw,
Kiev

In 2010 SPbSPU gained the status of
«National Research University»
In the same year Strategic Development
Program for 2010–2019 was elaborated
Main objective of the program is to develop SPbSPU
as a new type research university, which integrates
multidisciplinary R&D activities and advanced technologies
for rising up national economic competitiveness

St.Petersburg State Polytechnical University entered the TOP-800 world
universities QS World University Ranking 2013/14, taking up a position
in the 441-460 cluster.

Interfaculty Laboratory "Astrophysics objects with extreme energy
release" (head - professor Georgy G.Pavlov, Pennsylvania State
University, USA)
Laboratory of neurodegeneration (head – professor Ilya
B.Besprozvanny, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at
Dallas, USA)
Interfaculty Research Laboratory of improved confinement tokamak
plasmas (head - Friedrich Wagner, Director of Max Planck Institute for
Nuclear Physics, Germany)
Laboratory of Molecular Microbiology (head – professor Konstantin
V.Severinov, The State University of New Jersey, Rutgers, USA)
