Trip to the Monastery of the Mother of God the Protectress – Wentworth - October 11

The trip to the Monastery was very special.
We were warmly welcomed by Father Cyrille
Bradette and the other people that were there.
We attended a beautiful service and then had
lunch. After some break time, we went back
into the chapel and had an Ask Abouna
session. Father had amazing and powerful
responses which definitely inspired us. One of
the best things about visiting the Monastery
was to be away from all the distractions and
to be in a peaceful, calm and pleasant
environment.
J’ai adoré la sortie au Monastère du père
Cyrille. C’est un homme formidable. J’ai
beaucoup aimé ses histoires de Saints, elles
nous touchaient spirituellement.
Il a le talent de les raconter d’une façon que
tout le monde garde les yeux virés sur lui. Je
ne pense pas qu’il y a quelqu’un qui s’est
ennuyé en l’écoutant. Aussi, on s’est
beaucoup amusé avec son chien, Museau.
C’était très drôle quand on jouait au soccer
avec Père Jean. L’ambiance était très belle
quand tout le monde mangeait ensemble. Je le
répète, la sortie au Monastère était
magnifique !
Le 11 octobre 2014 a eu lieu une sortie au
Monastère de la Protection-de-la-Mère-deDieu. C’était une sortie très agréable et nous
avons pu appendre plusieurs choses sur la
religion.
Les moments passés avec Père Cyrille étaient
très enrichissants, car il avait plusieurs histoires
à nous raconter; il a été élevé dans une famille
catholique, puis est devenu orthodoxe, à l'âge
de 30 ans. Nous étions environ une
cinquantaine de personnes et l’environnement
était très chaleureux. L’emplacement était très
beau aussi, car le Monastère est situé au milieu
de la campagne. Je referais cette sortie l’an
prochain avec plaisir.

Une vingtaine d’enfants de 5 à 15 ans ont
fait le voyage avec leurs parents. À
notre arrivée, nous avons participé à la prière
de l’Acathiste dédiée à la Mère de Dieu suivie
d’une rencontre avec l’Higoumène. Je vais
surtout souligner le scintillement des yeux des
enfants lorsque l’Higoumène Cyrille leur
parlait de la prière, de l’amour et de la
miséricorde du Christ, dans la chapelle dédiée
à la Vierge Marie. Le temps filait, mais on
dirait que les enfants en voulaient encore et ils
demeuraient attentifs, curieux et calmes
comme par miracle ! Ils semblaient avoir
tellement de plaisir à écouter un moine qui
parlait le langage de leurs cœurs dans le cadre
de la quiétude du Monastère. De plus, les

En cette belle journée automnale, nous,
parents, enfants et professeurs, sommes
dirigés vers le Monastère de la Protection-dela-Mère-de-Dieu. Depuis quelques mois déjà
que cette excursion a été planifiée, nous
allions passer quelques heures en compagnie
de l’Higoumène Père Cyrille Bradette. Un
homme humble, aimable, pieux qui maîtrise
l’art de parler aux enfants tout comme aux
adultes pour les enchanter et pour les enivrer
par l’amour du Christ qu’il aime tant.
enfants ont été ébahis par la présence des
saintes reliques de quelques saints des temps
modernes qui sanctifient le Monastère. Dans
l’après-midi, notre court périple s’est conclu
après avoir pris la bénédiction de l’Higoumène
et c’est avec regret que nous avons quitté ce
lieu saint et paisible.
Que les intercessions de la Mère de Dieu et de
tous les Saints accompagnent nos prêtres, notre
paroisse, les enfants et leurs parents ainsi que
les enseignants dont la mission est accomplie
par le Saint-Esprit qui opère mystérieusement
dans les cœurs de tous les croyants!

On this great Saturday morning, family and
friends gathered together at church to go to
the Monastery. Once we arrived, leaves were
everywhere and the view was amazing.
We went for a few hours, we prayed in the
small church that used to be a garage for 3
cars. Father Cyrille Bradette, this really nice
man, talked to us about his past and we asked
questions and his answers really helped us.
We took a long walk in the forest and
watched the nice view of the mountains.
We passed a calm religious time there. We
were around 40 people and there were a lot of
kids. I had so much fun with my friends and I
can’t wait for next year’s visit to a Monastery!
At first, we took the bus to go the monastery.
Once we have arrived, we were greeted very
warmly by Father Cyrille and we also took a
tour of the place. We then went straight to the
church where chanters, people and priests
came to serve with us. The service was very
beautiful and holy and was also honoring the
Holy Virgin Mary, the mother of our God.
We also saw beautiful icons and crosses laid
out across the church.
Samedi matin, devant l’Église, tout le monde
attendait l’autobus. Arrivés sur place, nous
sommes allés dans une petite Église pour prier.
Savez-vous que l’église était un garage ?
Ensuite, c’était le temps du dîner. Juste après,
Père Cyrille nous a parlé de son passé et nous a
raconté des histoires. En plus, on lui a posé des
questions et il a répondu magnifiquement. Il
était vraiment drôle. Après, on est parti pour
une grande marche avec la famille et les amis.
C’était l’heure du départ. Deux heures plus
tard, on était de retour à Montréal. Je
n’oublierai jamais cette belle sortie. Je suis déjà
excitée pour l’année prochaine. J’ai aimé cette
sortie parce que j’ai appris beaucoup de choses

After that, we headed back to the church to
discuss with Father Cyrille the answers to our
questions. We asked anything we wanted to
know and he also told us wonderful stories
and life lessons that are worth noting. This
session was very similar to the famous “Ask
Abouna”. During this session, we got very
attached to Father Cyrille and we did not want
to leave because we were so moved by the
faith and the love in the atmosphere around
us. Once the session was over, we went
outside to take a couple of pictures with our
friends and to play around a little bit. Finally,
it was time to say our farewells and to go
back to our own homes. By the end of the
day, we all wished that that little village we
went too was our little home.
The trip to the Monastery was amazing. To
my surprise the location is breathtaking...the
mountains, the striking colors of the autumn
leaves. I know the children loved the nature
and playing soccer, the cute and amazingly
friendly dog. What surprised me though is
how much my children appreciated the sense
of community and rekindling their friendships
at Sunday School. The children were also
quite amazed by the many Saintly relics at the
Monastery's Chapel. My children were
inspired by the message of hope that
Father Cyrille gave to them when he spoke to
the group. I would strongly recommend this
kind of community and friendship building to
all the parents and children of St. George
Parish.

Once the service was finished, Father Cyrille
blessed us and took us into the building where
we sat down to eat with our brothers and
sisters in Christ. Although we were told to
bring our own food, the people were
courteous enough to share the food they
cooked with us which also strengthened the
warmth in the atmosphere. Thereafter, we
went outside and did some fun activities like
playing soccer with Father Jean or playing
with Father Cyrille’s puppy. It was a joy to
see young people play together and having a
wonderful time.

In October - Youth Month - the Teens
were active as Altar Boys, in passing the
tray, reading the Epistle, ushering and
giving sermonettes. They also attended
the Diocesan Fall Executive Meeting in
Brockville.
On October 26th, the Diocesan Arts
Festival Contestants and Winners
received their Awards.
