The Blessed Virgin Mary is chosen by God to be
the singular mother of His Son. As Jesus honored
His mother so did the early Church…as we do today. What is the role of the blessed Mother in the
Liturgy and the Life of the Church? Join us as we
explore this wonderful tradition!
NOVENA FOR
ST. JOHN NEUMANN
As our Parish celebrates the 35th Anniversary of
its founding, include your intentions at
the Novena Masses and throughout the year by
entering the intentions in the book outside the
Main Sanctuary.
St. John Neumann, pray for us!

PASTOR’S REFLECTION
Epiphany of the Lord
January 4, 2014
Dear Friends,
By virtue of our Baptism we are called to a
personal relationship with God. Please notice that
this relationship is called to be personal,
NOT PRIVATE. We are called to relate to the
living God...the risen Christ...and not just with an
idea. With the Magi, we celebrate today, we seek
to have a personal relationship with the God who
chose to come among us in the form of a little
child.
•
How do I encounter Jesus in my life? In prayer?
In Scripture? In other people?
As you reflect on God’s Word, may He strengthen
you with His peace. May the good Lord bless you
and your dear family abundantly during this holy
season of Christmas. Please pray for me.
In Christ,

RESPECT LIFE
WORD OF LIFE
“The concerns for non-violence, sustainable
development, justice and peace, and care for our
environment are of vital importance for humanity.
They cannot, however, be understood apart from a
profound reflection upon the innate dignity of
every human life from conception to natural death:
a dignity conferred by God Himself and thus
inviolable.”
— Pope Benedict XVI, “Welcoming Celebration
by the Young People,”

A MINUTE IN THE CHURCH
ONE MINUTE CATHOLIC APOLOGETICS
Apologetics- the branch of theology concerned with the
defense and rational justification of Christianity (in our
case, Catholicism).
Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who
asks for a reason for your hope. 1 Peter 3:15
Sacraments
Most Catholics know that there are seven sacraments:
Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation,
Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony.
But what really is a Sacrament and what do they do?
In the Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph
1131, it says this “The Sacraments are signs of grace,
instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church by
which divine life is dispensed to us.”
What does all that mean? Think of it like this; many
other Christian churches baptize or receive Communion. But they view those things as purely symbolic. As
Catholics, we believe that they are not just symbolic.
We believe that God actually DOES something in the
Sacraments. He gives grace, forgives sins, imbues us
with the Holy Spirit and, in many cases, puts and incredible mark, or character on our souls. Rather than
just being symbol, God actually works in and through
the Sacraments.
When we are open to God’s work in the Sacraments,
the Catechism tells us that “they bear fruit in those who
receive them with the required dispositions. “Let’s
pray that, as we participate in the sacramental life of the
Church, we will bear much fruit.
