Warm wishes from the office of the Secretary, NEROSA.
It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you all to the 27th Annual Conference of NEROSA,
NEOSCON 2014 in Agartala, Tripura.
I am indeed grateful to the Orthopaedic Fraternity of the North East for bestowing me the
responsibility of the post of Honorary Secretary of NEROSA on 22nd January 2012 in Guwahati,
Assam. I am thankful to all of you for the support and the co-operation that you have extended to
me in this period of time.
The IOA Centre State Relation Committee Meeting was held in March 2013 at IOA House,
New Delhi where our president Dr. U K Tamuli had attended the meeting. He presented a power
point presentation to the august gathering about the activities of our organization and regarding
few fellowships for NEROSA members in different subspecialties of Orthopaedics.
The 26th annual conference of NEROSA, NEOSCON 2013 was well organised in Assam
Medical College & Hospital Dibrugarh from 9th to 10th March 2013 under the aegis of Dibrugarh
Orthopaedic Society and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Assam Medical college &
Hospital Dibrugarh Assam. Professor Ranjit Kr Baruah was the Organising Chairman and Dr
Bipul Borthakur was Organising secretary. Special thanks to the Organising Committee of 26th
NEOSCON as they have done such a commendable job of organizing the yearly conference of
NEROSA in a very short notice to bail out the commitment of Manipur as the latter could not
hold it as decided earlier because of some problem. The conference was preceded by a Pre
conference workshop on Deformity Correction & Spinal Instrumentation conducted by Prof
Arvind Jaiswal, Prof Ashok Jaryal and Dr Ankur Goswami from AIIMS, New Delhi. There was
didactic lectures on Epidemiology, Biomechanics, Nerophysiological Monitoring, Complication
and management and Pre operative assessment of spinal deformities and problems. The limelight
of the workshop was Cadaveric Dissection and Instrumentation. Special thanks goes to the
Department of Anatomy of Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, Assam for
providing the logistics. The Conference began with Dr S N Baruah Memorial Oration by Dr G
S Borgohain with his illustrious presentation on Skeletal Tuberculosis. There were various
presentations by the guest speakers like Dr SKS Marya, Immediate Past President of IOA, Dr R
Goverdhan, Ex Hony Secy IOA, Prof A Jaiswal from AIIMS New Delhi, Prof Ashok Jaryal and
many paper presentations by NEROSA Members. The Conference was followed by the Annual
General Body Meeting of NEROSA.
The 25th Annual General Body Meeting of NEROSA was held in the auditorium of Assam
Medical College and Hospital under the president ship of Dr. V Myrboh the immediate past
president of NEROSA and many important decisions were taken on various important issues,
following which there was change of guards ceremony and the new Executive body of NEROSA
had been formed with Dr Utpal Kr Tamuli as President and Dr S K Dey as President Elect of
NEROSA. Following resolutions were passed in the AGM.

Venue of NEOSCON 2015 is Arunachal Pradesh.

Mid Term CME of NEROSA for 2013 will be the COE 2013, Guwahati to be
held from 6th to 8th Sept. 2013.

NEROSA to conduct PG Quiz along with the COE 2013.

NEROSA House to be inaugurated during COE 2013, Guwahati.
Dr U Tamuli and Dr D A Phukan to take charge of the property.

Hony Secy NEROSA to release Rs 15000.00 ( Fifteen thousand )
only from NEROSA Building Fund Account for the expense of hosting NEROSA
Website.
Resln No 6.
Hony Secy NEROSA is allowed to meet up the necessary expenses ( Maximum
of 20000.00 only ) to deposit the IT Return for last couple of years and to Renew
the Society Registration immediately.
Executive Body Meeting held on 16/06/13 in Guwahati passed the following resolutions
Resln No 1.
A formal letter to be addressed to the Secy /Commissioner /Director Health &
Family Welfare, Assam requesting an official directive to the Physiotherapist not
to prefix Dr.
Resln No 2.
Pre Bone & Joint Day Get together will be held in Guwahati on 3rd Aug 2013
along with a talk show in a local TV Channel and a meeting of the Org
Committee of 31st COE 2013 Guwahati.

NEROSA Quiz to be organized by the Dept of Orthopaedic Surgery, GMCH on
7th Sept 2013 .
Resln No 4.
The matured Fixed Deposit of Rs 41000.00 ( Approx. ) of NEROSA should be
immediately cashed to NEROSA savings account .
In response to IOA President’s call for National Bone & Joint Day Celebration there was
overwhelming response from the members of NEROSA. We had FREE CLINICS on 4th Aug in
the private chambers of our members as well as Public awareness meetings by many of our
members. Many of our members performed FREE Surgery to at least one poor patient. To
commemorate the day a Talk show had been aired in a News Channels of Assam along with a
Press Release from the office of the Secy. NEROSA.
In response to IOA Secretary’s call for the Physiotherapist prefixing Dr. a RTI was filed by
NEROSA and the details are published in the Souvenir.
NEROSA midterm CME ( 31st OREF COE Guwahati ) was held from 6th to 9th Sept 2013 in
the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakhetra Guwahati Assam under the aegis of Guwahati Orthopaedic
Society in collaboration with Orthopaedic Research & Education Foundation ( OREF ) India.
This was highly successful and it has set up a yardstick to the ability of NEROSA in organizing a
National level conference in future. In fact it was a curtain raiser for NEROSA to organize the
mega event of Indian Orthopaedics like IOACON in coming days. Nearly 175 delegates from all
over India attended this COE. To its credit 19 National Faculty and 3 International Faculty
deliberated lectures on Upper limb trauma and its management. Honourable Justice Sri Ranjan
Gogoi of Supreme Court of India and Honorable Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankardev
University of Health Sciences Assam Dr U C Sarma had been the Invited as Guest. Kudos to the
Organising Committee of 31st COE 2013 Guwahati especially Dr Diganta Apurba Phukan, the
Organising Secretary for successfully organizing this event.
NEROSA GOLD MEDAL for Best PG Paper is made of 22 Karat Gold platted memento. We
are indeed thankful to Dr Deven Taneja for donating a some of Rs 100000.00 ( One Lac ) for the
medal and the amount will be kept as a Fixed Deposit.
In National Post Graduate Quiz Competition three of our Post Graduate students from
Guwahati Medical College & Hospital had been selected for participation in IOACON Agra.
North East Orthoscan, the journal of NEROSA has been published regularly under the
leadership of Dr. Bhaskar Borgohain of NEIGRIMS, Shillong , Meghalaya.
City chapters in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Imphal, Shillong, Kohima, Tripura, Sikkim are
active and organising regular activities.
Members Strength of NEROSA presently is 171 life members. We heartily welcome all of our
10 new members that I could bring to our organization in last year.
THE NEROSA HOUSE is almost ready for possession. I would like to remind our members
that we should posses the asset once the township gets completely ready. We have collected an
amount of Rs 12.8 Lac and deposited Rs 12.7 Lac to the construction farm known as Larica
Hamlet. I would like to thank our esteemed members as well as to all the Organising Committees
of last years NEOSCONs and MIDTERM CMEs for their generous contributions to this
benevolent fund. I would like to request our new members to donate Rs 5 Thousand only to
NEROSA Building Fund immediately as we have some deficit budget. I also like to request our
old members to contribute the same if you are yet to pay the amount.
As per the resolutions undertaken
We have hosted our website www.nerosa.org
We have filed the IT Return up-to-date.
We have renewed the Society Registration.
We have filed the RTI against the Physiotherapist prefixing Dr.
We have written a formal letter to the Govt. of Assam in these connections.
We have been honored to get Rs 100000.00 from Dr Deven Taneja for NEROSA GOLD
MEDAL.
Above all, I express my sincere gratitude to all the members of the organizing committee of
NEOSCON 2014 for shouldering the responsibility of holding the conference in this beautiful
part of our country which would be certainly a memorable one for the future.
