CCS Disability Action Library Services - Wellington
Did you know that CCS Disability Action has a library, which is available for
EVERYONE to use?
Our information service is like a mini-public library, where all the books and
magazines and DVDs are about disability, or providing services to people living
with a disability.





If you are a parent wondering how to toilet-train your child with
Autism Spectrum Disorder,
or a community support worker wondering what ‘personalisation’ is,
and how to deliver it
or you are wanting to read a good story about someone with a
disability just like yours,
You need a children’s book on how to help a child make friends?
Want to watch a good movie like the ‘Intouchables’ or ‘Mary and
Max’?
You can e-mail our librarian, and you will be sent books, DVDs or magazine
articles that answer your questions, wherever you live. You can see what
we have in our library by searching our catalogue from the CCS Disability
Action Information Service web page www.ccsdisabilityaction.org.nz
You can borrow them for a month and
then post them back to us. It’s
absolutely FREE! Thanks to the
Ministry of Health.
Email: [email protected]
or call 0800 227 200 or …come and
see us at the May Day Expo! We will
be there with a sample of our library’s
resources, which you can borrow
there and then!

Rainbow Respite Care
A new and much wanted service is to be started in Gore. Raewyn Moate is soon to launch
her new business Rainbow Respite Care. The service will be based on Hokonui Drive in
the old backpackers which is ideal as the building is fire compliant and accessible.

this up as a business. Raewyn has 30 years service in the disability sector including
working for CCS, IHC, Stroke Foundation and she also has a Certificate in Social Work.
The aim of Rainbow Respite Care is to give caregivers a break and to give the client their
own individualised care. Raewyn may be able to take up to 8 clients of any age and
disability. However eligibility will be on a case to case basis. The respite care can be
private pay or by using respite care payment.

Video Remote Interpreting
Great news for the Deaf Community! The Video Remote
interpreting (VRI) service is now available in a lot of new
places around New Zealand. VRI is a free service
available for Deaf NZSL users when they have a meeting
with hearing staff at government agencies. VRI uses
computer video technology to access a qualified NZSL
Interpreter on screen.
In the last few weeks we have been training staff at Work
and Income (WINZ), Child Youth and Family CCYF) and
ACC offices around New Zealand so Deaf people can use VRI for meetings or appointments
with their staff.
VRI is now available in these places:Whangarei: ACC and Ministry of Social Development
New Plymouth: Ministry of Social Development
Dunedin: Ministry of Social Development
Tauranga: Child Youth and Family
Invercargill: ACC and Child Youth and Family.
In Wellington and Christchurch VRI is only available to use at Ministry of Social
Development Regional offices. This is because the video conferencing equipment used to
connect with the interpreter is located only at these offices. This means that if you want to
use VRI for an appointment your meeting will take place in the Region office rather than at
the local Community Link, Work and Income or Child Youth and Family office.
If your want to book with Work and Income using VRI, you can contact the Deaf Link
service.
