Residential Architecture is about finding a balance between Architectural Design &
Interior Design. RSP attributes its success in the field of Residential Architecture to its
strong belief that this balance needs to blend the strengths of Architectural Design
with the sensitivities of Interior Design. The result is a totally integrated, coordinated,
finely detailed environment. From the way a residential project presents itself to a
neighbourhood, to exacting interior proportions and lighting, to the positioning of
interior furnishings this approach has garnered RSP a large repeat clientele. A creative
design approach, irrespective of type and scale governs the process by which every
residential project is articulated.
Unlike other sectors in the architectural design field, residential architecture by nature
evokes an essence of stability and perseverance. This is a crucial part of RSP’s design
philosophy; the design process is an unraveling exploration to reveal the essence of
each situation, creating forms and spaces that transmit a sense of simplicity, humanity
and performance, an architecture which enhances and respects the environment
and gives joy to the users. A residential project is not the same as other project
typologies; it forms an intimate relationship with its users, as it evolves into their home
and sanctuary.
The key to a successful residential project is the amalgamation and integration of
the different design parameters of environment, culture, site potentials, functions,
geometry and aesthetics of the building mass. RSP’s residential design strategy is
based on a good design management with close monitoring to the design quality
through the different stages of the design, a well-studied design process introducing
high technology tools and design soft wares to come up with efficient and sustainable
designs and good coordination between all the stakeholders of the project.

01- ION ORCHARD & ORCHARD RESIDENCES

The ION Orchard is a 56-story commercial and
residential building fronting Orchard Road,
Paterson Road. The commercial podium consists of
4 sub-terranean levels of retail, food and beverages
spaces connected to MRT station.

Pan’gea Development includes 4 blocks of
residential towers. Those apartment blocks range
from 26 to 38 storey tall.

Standing at 50-storeys, the pinnacle houses
1848 units in its 7 blocks that are laid out in
the shape of a hook on a 2.5 Ha site at Duxton

Michael Magill joined RSP Architects Planners & Engineers in 2009 as the Design
Director of Middle East and North Africa. Having worked with high profile
international architectural practices on a wide range of projects throughout the
world he has had extensive experience on numerous projects in the Education,
Healthcare, Commercial, Residential and Hospitality sectors. As the lead designer
Michael’s projects have won numerous architectural wards including the Royal
Institute of Architects Award in the UK, and his projects have been published in
numerous publications.
Michael Magill’s role has been to build the RSP Dubai studio through delivering
excellence in design and building the RSP brand in the region. Michael has built
up a talented design team that can deliver highly complex and iconic projects in
the MENA region. This has been achieved through the implementation of design
standards, BIM and systems to ensure the efficient running of these major projects
from Concept Design through to Tender Documentation stage.
During his time with RSP he has completed the design of the Al Rajhi Bank
Headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which is the largest Islamic bank in the
world. He has also lead the design of a major education project in Abu Dhabi,
UAE, the new Khalifa University Campus. He is currently designing the new
Nakheel Mall on the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In addition,
Michael Magill has designed a number of key projects demonstrating his diverse
experience. These include, Maliha Hospital (200 bed) - Sharjah, Reem Luxury Villas
- Abu Dhabi, Reflections Residential Development - Bangalore (short listed for the
World Architecture Awards), West Beach Club - Dubai, Cuban Club - Abu Dhabi,
Al Warraq masterplan - Cairo and the upgrade of Singapore Embassy in Riyadh.
