Fire Door Hardware Selection and Specification
ARE YOU LEGAL?
ARE YOU LEGAL?
As the building occupier, or responsible person you
MUST
: Complete your own risk assessment, including checking of all fire doors and means of escape, or risk being fined or imprisoned.
Architectural Hardware, Doors and Access Specification WHY
do Lloyd Worrall take this route to market?
It is our opportunity to use our expertise and knowledge to assist in creating a compliant specification.
HOW
do Lloyd Worrall take this route to market?
Working with Architects, Design Teams and End Users, on new-build and refurbishment projects.
WHY
should the end user be involved?
It is their opportunity to influence a specification that they have to live with and maintain after taking ownership of the project.
HOW
can you be involved?
By creating a standard specification that travels through each project and your own building maintenance programmes.
Standard Specifications WHY
standardise at the front end? Give yourself the best chance of compliance to relevant legislation and standards.
HOW
do you do it? Research up front and create a standard specification document that becomes the culture of the building or estate.

BS EN 1154 classifies mechanical door closers under the following categories:
Category of use 2 grades Durability Door mass Fire resistance 2 grades 7 grades 2 grades Safety 1 grade Corrosion resistance 5 grades BS EN 1154 states that door closers with a minimum power rating of 3 should be used on a fire door.
Accessible doors as defined in BS 8300 (amended 2005) should require no more than 30 N force to open.
Manufacturers will often mention efficiency as a benchmark for quality.

less than 1%
of the total building costs, then those doors and their hardware would
