What Has Been Done
• Coordinating and organizing a group of B.Ed. students to
attend the WestCAST Conference in Winnepeg.
▫ The WestCAST conference stands for the Western Canadian Association
for Student Teaching,
 it is “held annually in one of the four western provinces, is a unique
conference in that it brings together a diverse audience of educators,
from university instructors and administrators to student teachers.”
• Every student currently in the Bachelor of Education
program had to opportunity to submit a one-page
application describing why they would want to attend
the WestCAST conference and I was responsible for
deciding which students to attend.
• There will be 8 teacher-candidates attending the
WestCAST conference, 2 members from the Education
Student Association are included in those 8 students.
Plans For the Year
• As the vice-chair, I plan to provide assistance to all
members of the ESA in any of their projects.
• I am very involved with the Social Committee; we have
some great events planned for the 2nd part of the year. I
have been working alongside Laura to ensure that this
year is a success in regards to social events and getting
students to participate in events outside of the
classroom.
• I will be actively involved in the Grad Event that the ESA
will be hosting near the end of the year. Our Grad
Committee Coordinator, SeWon has been doing a
fantastic job so far with planning this event. I hope to
provide her and the Grad Committee with support in
planning this event.

NITEP
• NITEP began as an
elementary teacher education

in response to needs
expressed by Aboriginal
people throughout BC for a
more effective and relevant
teacher education program.
NITEP
• Aboriginal people want a teacher education program
that addresses educational issues pertinent to public
and band schools settings where their children
attend school. These issues include curriculum,
teaching methodology, testing and assessment.
Aboriginal people want a teacher education program
that honours and builds upon the individual’s
culture.
• There is a shortage of Aboriginal teachers in BC, and
an increasing number of Aboriginal people desire to
become teachers. NITEP was designed to meet these
particular needs
