Jesus Is:
What Does The Bible Say?
Introduction
• God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit via the scriptures
tells us what and who Jesus is.
• Here are just a few.
God’s Son
• 1 John 4:9 “By this the love of God was
manifested in us, that God has sent His only
begotten Son into the world so that we might live
through him”.
• Hear Him
• Matthew 17:5”While he was still speaking,
behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and
behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, ‘This is
My Beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased;
listen to Him’.”
God’s Gift
• John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that
He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish, but have
eternal life”.
• Receive Him.
• John 1:12 “But as many as received Him, to
them He gave the right to become children of
God, even to those who believe in His name,”
The Christ
• Matthew 16:16 “And Simon Peter answered
and said, ‘Thou art the Christ, the Son of the
living God’.”
• Confess Him.
• Matthew 10:32 “Everyone therefore who shall
confess Me before men, I will also confess him
before My Father who is in heaven”.
The Foundation
• 1 Corinthians 3:11 “For no man can lay a
foundation other than the one which is laid,
which is Jesus Christ”.
• Build on Him
• Matthew 7:24-25 “Therefore everyone who hears
these words of mine, and acts upon them, may be
compared to a wise man, who built his house
upon the rock. And the rain descended, and the
floods came, and the winds blew, and burst
against that house, and yet it did not fall, for it
had been founded upon the rock”.
The Light
• John 8:12 “Again therefore Jesus spoke to
them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world; he
who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness,
but shall have the light of life’.”
• Follow Him
• John 8:12
The Way
• John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way,
and the truth, and the life; no one comes to
the Father, but through Me’.”
• Walk In Him
• Colossians 2:6 “As you therefore have received
Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him”.
The Truth
• John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way,
and the truth, and the life; no one comes to
the Father, but through Me’.”
• Believe Him
• John 20:31 “but these have been written that
you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of God; and that believing you may have
life in His name”.
The Life
• John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way,
and the truth, and the life; no one comes to
the Father, but through Me’.”
• Have Him
• 1 John 5:11-12 “And the witness is this, that
God has given us eternal life, and this life is in
His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he
who does not have the Son of God does not
have the life”.
The Door
• John 10:9 :I am the door; if anyone enters through
Me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and
find pasture”.
• Enter in.
• Romans 6:3-5 “Or do you not know that all of us who
have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been
baptized into His death? Therefore we have been
buried with Him through baptism into death, in order
that as Christ was raised from the dead through the
glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness
of life,. For if we have become united with Him in the
likeness of His death, certainly we shall be also in the
likeness of his resurrection,”
The Bread
• John 6:35 “Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread
of life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger,
and he who believes in Me shall never thirst”.
• Eat and live
• John 6:51 “I am the living bread that came
down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this
bread, he shall live forever; and the bread also
which I shall give for the life of the world is my
flesh”.
The Great Physician
• Mark 2:16-17 “And when the scribes of the Pharisees saw
that He was eating with the sinners and tax-gatherers, they
began saying to His disciples ‘why is He eating and drinking
with tax-gatherers and sinners?’ And hearing this Jesus said
to them, ‘It is not those who are healthy who need a
physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the
righteous, but sinners”.
• Be healed.
• Matthew 13:15 “For the heart of this people has become
dull, and with their ears they scarcely hear, and they have
closed their eyes lest they should see with their eyes and
heart with their ears, and understand with their heart and
return and I should heal them”.
Our Friend
• John 15:13-14 “Greater love has no one than
this, that one lay down his life for his friends,
You are my friends, if you do what I command
you”.
• Trust Him

shall come to root of Jesse, and He who arises
to rule over the Gentiles, in Him shall the
Gentiles hope.
Our Hope
• 1 Timothy 1:1 “Paul, an apostles of Christ Jesus
according to the commandment of God our Savior,
and of Christ Jesus, who is our hope”.
• Lay Hold
• Hebrews 6:18-20 “in order that by two unchangeable
things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may
have strong encouragement, we who have fled for
refuge in laying hold of the hope set before us. This
hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both
sure and steadfast and one which enters within the
veil, where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us,
having become a high priest forever according to the
order of Melchizedek”.
The Vine
• John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the
branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him,
he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you
can do nothing”.
• Abide in Him
• John 15:4 “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the
branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it
abides in the vine, so neither can you, unless
you abide in Me”.
Our Judge
• John 5:22 “For not even the Father judges
anyone, be he has given all judgment to the
Son”.
• Be on His right hand
• Matthew 25:34 “Then the King will say to
those on His right, ‘Come, you who are
blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom
prepared for you from the foundation of the
world’.”
Our Peace
• Ephesians 2:14 “For He Himself is our peace,
who made both groups into one, and broke
down the barrier of the dividing wall”.
• Have and enjoy
• Romans 5:1 “Therefore having been justified
by faith, we have peace with God through our
Lord Jesus Christ,”
Our Savior
• 1 John 4:14 “And we have beheld and bear
witness that the Father has sent the Son to be the
Savior of the world”.
• Come to Him
• Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all who are
weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I
am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find
rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My
load is light”.
Our Example

this purpose, since Christ also suffered for
you, leaving you an example for you to follow
in His steps”.
• Follow Him

• Hear and Follow
• John 10:27-28 “My sheep hear My voice, and I
know them, and they follow Me; and I give
eternal life to them, and they shall never
perish; and no one shall snatch them out of
My hand”.
Our Prophet
• Acts 3:22 “Moses said, The Lord God shall
raise up for you a prophet like me from your
brethren; to Him you shall give heed in
everything He says to you”.
• Hear Him
• Acts 3:23 “And it shall be that every soul that
does not heed that prophet shall be utterly
destroyed from among the people”.
Our Priest
• Hebrews 3:1 “Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a
heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High
Priest of our confession”.
• Turn for help
• Hebrews 4:14-16 “Since then we have a great high
priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the
Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do
not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with
our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in all
things as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore
draw near with confidence to the throne of grace,
that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help
in time of need”.
Our King
• John 18:37 “Pilate therefore said to Him, ‘So
You are a king?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say
correctly that I am a king. For this I have been
born, and for this I have come into the world,
to bear witness to the truth, Everyone who is
of the truth hears My voice’.”
• Serve Him

Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified”.

every knee should bow, of those who are in
heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and
that every tongue should confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”.
Our Captain
• Hebrews 2:10 “For it was fitting for him, for
whom are all things, and through whom are all
things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect
the author (captain,KJV) of their salvation
through sufferings”.

learned obedience from the things which He
suffered. And having been made perfect, He
became to all those who obey Him the source of
eternal salvation”.
Our Mediator
• 1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and one
mediator also between God and men, the
man Christ Jesus”.
• Use Him
• John 16:23 “And in that day you will ask Me no
question. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you shall
ask the Father for anything, He will give it to
you in My name”.
Conclusion

• So many ways to see our Master.
• Each one of these descriptions by itself is only
a partial truth even though each one is a
complete truth.
• What is Jesus to you?
• If you are not serving Him, why not?
