Something to watch out
Those with exactly the same wording are,
in most cases, NOT the correct answers.
e.g.
Experts in that country say that air
pollution has damaged most of their
forests.
Wrong: The Govt. believes this will reduce illegal
practices and protect forest areas.
Correct: Willows have suffered the most, but maples
& other trees have also been harmed.

Types of questions:
Wh-questions
• Example: What inspired you to write this book?
• Answers: Nouns / Adjectives
Yes/No questions
• Example: Did you argue with your business
partners?

Same tense for verbs within the same
sentence
Special case
Main clause verb: Simple past or past perfect
Verb in the subordinate clause: Simple past or
past perfect
• Exception: the subordinate clause as a general
truth:
• Columbus somehow knew that the world is round.

• To show same-time action, use the present tense

• To show earlier action, use simple past tense

• To show a period of time from the past to the
present, use the present perfect tense
