Vision
The BACD firmly believes that the chemical industry plays an essential role in
the sustainable development of our world. Based on this vision the BACD
aims to contribute to a successful future and ever better quality of life for
everyone.
Mission
The mission of the BACD is to support the interests of the chemical
distribution sector. The BACD helps ensure that this is achieved in a
responsible manner with the focus on people, the environment and safety.
For this reason, the BACD subscribes to the initiatives relating to Responsible
Care and Product Stewardship.

Objectives
The objectives of the BACD:




To promote trade in chemical products.
To defend, protect and develop the common interests of its members in
promoting sustainable business.
To develop good practices in the areas of safety, health and the
environment in distribution.
To maintain contacts with the various stakeholders in the chemical
distribution sector.

The association has 60 members:
 Active members:
Active traders in chemical products based in Belgium and/or the
Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

The Balance of Distribution
The turnover of the chemical distribution sector accounts for just 2.5% of
the total turnover of the chemical industry in Belgium.
The large manufacturers maintain preferential commercial links with a
limited number of potential large users, which is < 10% of the total industrial
customers.
Chemical distribution is responsible for the remaining 90 % of delivery
points.

Organisation of the BACD
Committees
During regular committee meetings, the technical specialists of the
members discuss specific topics.
The results of this consultation are reported to the members.
If necessary, our viewpoint is also presented to various bodies to defend
the interests of our members.

The Board of Directors is elected by the General Meeting from the
active members. The Directors are appointed for a period of 3 years.

Activities
(1) Active collaboration with education establishments
Students are offered the opportunity to become familiar with the
chemical distribution sector and study topical subjects in depth in
conjunction with our members.
 Safe Project in conjunction with University College Ghent
Result: Improved insight into the additional costs associated with
safety regulations.
 Needs analysis amongst our members in conjunction with
University College Ghent
Result: Better communication with a new logo, new name and
totally revised website.
 Chemical Distribution in Belgium 2007 – 2010 in conjunction with
the University of Antwerp
Result: This study was recently published in the Journal of
Business Chemistry, (Vol9 Iss2 June 2012).

Extending awareness of the importance of Responsible Care and 3rd
party verification.
Certificate for members who apply the principles of Responsible Care
conscientiously in their company philosophy.
Annual report of the IOPs to FECC.
