Steps to Perfection
Some of the best basketball players in the world
got to be so good because they practiced their
shots everyday. Michael Jordan, Kevin Garnett,
and Kobe Bryant all worked hard on the
fundamentals of their shot to become such great
scorers.
Today we are going to learn and see some
examples as to what you want to focus in on to
become a good shooter.
• Hold the ball with your
shooting hand like a waiter
holding a tray
• Elbow at 90 degree angle
• Knees bent
• Feet shoulder width apart
• Roll ball off fingers to
create backspin
• Flip wrist and wave
goodbye
• Pretend your shooting
over a telephone booth
• Gooseneck finish
• Fingers pointing at
shoes
• Freeze hand at the top
of follow through
The Usefulness of PowerPoint
As a future physical education teacher PowerPoint could be
useful to me in a number of ways. First, it could assist me in
the classroom when I am teaching new skills, for example, the
lesson I just previously did on the basketball shot. PowerPoint
can help me break down a skill in a way that is easily
understood. It is also a good way to incorporate pictures and
examples of skills for my visual learners to look at.
PowerPoint may also help me as a teacher in open house
situations. As I mingle with parents I can have a PowerPoint
show going on about the basic expectations and curriculum of
my class.
Instructional Implications of
Students
The students would probably not directly use this technology
in my classroom. The only way that would happen is if they
where assigned a skill to teach to the whole class, then I may
require them to present their skill with PowerPoint (this would
only be assigned to students in junior high and high school).
Otherwise, the way the students are using the technology is by
getting a good presentation from me and learning new skills in
a nontraditional format. PowerPoint would be another way to
present students with information, hopefully it would be less
boring than a straight lecture.
