How we create Britannica • Britannica has developed processes by commissioning more than 4000 contributors from around the world who are the best in their field • We have contributors from all fields of expertise including scientists, museum curators and other experts chosen for their knowledge of their subject. Past and present included Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Leon Trotsky, Harry Houdini to Tony Blair, Desmond Tutu, Mohamed Yunas • The resulting text is edited by over one hundred editors who fact check and edit for language level, written style, age level, so that we publish appropriately for adults, teenagers and children • Part of obtaining an education is developing the ability to form a judgment about what you read, use and believe © 2011 Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc. Britannica’s Currency The online service is a living, breathing portal, updated on a daily basis We provide perpetual availability of trusted information with daily automatic feeds, downloads on demand and carefully managed access for our users When there is breaking news around the world our service is updated in line with the events as they happen For example the tragic events of the recent Japanese Tsunami unfolded Britannica was a major source of reference for those looking at the cause of the earthquakes, as well as those wanting to know what was happening and where © 2011 Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc. Encyclopædia Britannica (UK) Ltd Search v Research Britannica is different from Google or Wikipedia. Google and Wikipedia Easy resources for searching for facts, but are they facts? Very effective technologically, but vast, and full of the relevant and the irrelevant. What about the quality or correctness of the material? Britannica 4,000 expert contributors write the text whilst the editors check facts and edit the text so it is at the appropriate age level, neutral and peer reviewed. Protects students and teachers from the perils of confusing the terms ‘searching’ and ‘researching’. © 2009 Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc. Encyclopædia Britannica (UK) Ltd.
