Tallinn University of Technology Library
The primary goal of Tallinn University of Technology
Library is to provide information required for academic,
research and development activities at TUT.
As the only one scientific technical library in Estonia,
it is open for public.
• TUT Library, founded in 1919, is the university centre of
library services and electronic information.
• It hosts the biggest and the best technical and business
related books and electronic information collection in
Estonia.
Main figures 2010
• Library has about 26,000 lending customers,
incl. 10,000 external users
• Annual visits reach 285,000, daily visits 1700-1800
• Printed collections over 720,000 volumes,
incl. about 110,000 coursebooks and about
460 current journals
• In 2010 university`s computer network allowed access
to 65,000 e-journals, 60,000 e-books, 90 databases
• Searches to licensed databases 470,000, with
downloading of nearly 0,5 mln documents
• Library staff 74, with TUT Press and TUT Museum 84
New library building
• On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the
library in 2009 the new contemporary building was
festively opened in the university campus corner plot,
connested with other university buildings with galleries.
• The main aim of the new building – to create an
innovative user-friendly environment for study,
research, communications and relaxation,
has been met in full.

• The new library building has unique exterior
and interior design.
• In its protective textile covering it is one of the
largest public buildings to employ this technique.
• The interior architectural concept is based on woodthe floor plan, the interplay of forms and the selection
of materials.
• The use of bright green for the furniture, floors and walls,
the use of wood as a material and the leaf pattern motif
help foster the sence of a place, which is safe
and pleasant.
New facilities
In new building:
• 300,000 volumes on open access shelves
• 530,000 volumes in storage capacity
• 500 different study places on the 4 floors of the building
• 180 computer terminals on every floor
• free access to Wireless Internet in the whole building
• computer lab with 22 computers
• training classroom for IL courses
• 26 individual study rooms
• 6 group study rooms (8 persons each)

• use of Estonian ID Card as the Library Card
The new library building is becoming a popular learning
and meeting place. The number of readers has increased
22% within a year, 5,000 new readers have been added.
