Across the Curriculum
We have a requirement for cross-cultural or sustainable coursework for the AA
Working on it...
The Environmental Studies Program is entirely about sustainability and is well established.
The Landscape Hort Department offers well established sustainability curriculum. The rest of
Merritt Departments seem to be discussing and planning but do not publicize formal
sustainability offerings at this time.
While there is nothing formal at the moment, 25 faculty members here are working as a
Campus Sustainability Group to identify courses and coordinate course offerings with
sustainability infused. We are working in our District to institute an Environmental Studies
major, as well.
Instructors currently discuss in a number of courses including geology, oceanography, preengineering, and possibly biology.
I am the co-chair of our district sustainable curriculum committee. We use the ESD toolkit at
our workshops
It is in the planning and development stages
We have a large sustainability committee. Representatives from most disciplines. They have
sponsored region conferences and other events throughout the year.
Learning Community
We have begun, it is one of our new master plan values and part of our institutional SLOs.

Other General Comments
Professional development
Participate in the district wide efforts to integrate sustainablity. It provides a
forum for discussion and planning.
Integrating the curriculum with the physical plant and administrative functions
needs to increase.
Guaranteed interviews with local solar installer employers are provided for
successful completors of these two classes.
The Workforce Investment Boards are helping to fill these classes with clients
looking to re-train for new careers. In addition, these linked classes are on the
Employer Training Provider List (ETPL) so that eligible students can get tuition
reimbursement.
Our new campus is LEED Platinum Certified and serves as a wonderful learning
lab
Make staff and students aware. That's our first step. Then, demand changes
higher up.
