The intersectoral approach within the OAS Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) First Meeting of Ministers and High Authorities of Social Development in the framework of CIDI Ambassador Alfonso Quiñónez Executive Secretary for Integral Development CIDI CIDI: Body of the OAS with decision-making power in matters of partnership for integral development . CIDI answers directly to the General Assembly Purpose: To promote partnership among it member States for the furtherance of their integral development an, in particular, to help eliminate extreme poverty. CIDI holds Regular annual meeting: To consider matters of a general nature in the area of partnership for development and integral development Sectoral meetings: Ministerial meetings of education, labor, culture, sustainable development, social development, science and technology, tourism Follow up done by: CEPCIDI – CIDI Permanent Committee – Permanent fora, follow up to work of different sectors Inter-American Committees – Political-technical body. Follow up to Summit of the Americas and Ministerial mandates SEDI Mission of the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI): To provide support to member states in their efforts to reduce poverty and achieve greater economic and social SEDI Objectives: • To contribute in the consolidation of the OAS as a main political forum; • To develop, promote, and implement programs, projects and cooperation activities aimed to: (1)strengthening of capacity building; (2) strengthening of institutions, and (3) design and implementation of effective public policy; • To establish or strengthen strategic partnerships; • To mobilize resources; • To increase the visibility of the Organization as an important actor in the area of development. Through • Supporting dialogue at the highest level Secretariat services and technical advise • Acting as an agent that catalyzes and translates political agreements into concrete actions. Implementation of Plans of Action of Ministerials and Inter-American Committees • Promoting, coordinating, and facilitating the execution of programs, projects, and activities. Strategic Plan for Partnership for Integral Development 2006-2009 Principal Goal: to support member states in their efforts to reduce poverty and inequity to provide equality of opportunities and to eradicate extreme poverty through capacity building of human resources and strengthening institutions. • Action at two levels: Policy level: Aims at strengthening • Programmatic level: the dialogue as well as the institutional arrangements and mechanisms that are critical to the ability of both governments and the General Secretariat to implement the Plan. Identifies a number of priority areas to ensure a focused and effective implementation of the Plan that are of special concern to member States and in which the OAS enjoys a comparative advantage.
