En route to Zion NIV Hebrews 11:10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. VISION 7: Victory over Satan NIV Revelation 20:1 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. CHRISTIANITY IS ALWAYS OPPOSED BUT IT STILL SPREADS THROUGHOUT THE EARTH VISION 7: Victory over Satan 4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years. Who are the rest? NIV Daniel 12:2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. 1,000 Years This is the perfect (symbolic) time that the Gospel spreads throughout the world. From Pentecost to the End. First Resurrection – Life with Christ NOW Paradise enjoyed now at the moment of death? Or spiritual life in faith? Or both? I personally believe it is both because 1,000 years longs for the totality of saints. Note the parallel: 20:14. The SECOND death comes after Judgment. The FIRST death is sin NOW. Second Resurrection – Eternal Life Clearly, this is the physical resurrection and paradise after the Final Day, Judgement. First Death Sin and physical death of sinful flesh. Second Death Eternal damnation AFTER the Final Day. Rev. 20:14. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 20:1-6. The Gospel spreads throughout the earth for a perfect period of time ordained by God (symbolically 1,000 years). After that time, Satan has a very brief time to really wreck havoc. The thrones and established places for saints are already set in place (John 14:1-6). The 1,000 year reign spread NIV Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. VISION 7: Victory over Satan Those who worshipped Christ alone and died in the faith are already with Him in paradise (this is part of the first resurrection – life with Him presently). The second death (damnation and eternal death) has no power over them. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 7 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth-- Gog and Magog -- to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. Gog and Magog -The Secular Empire of the Crumbled Romans Addressing Gog and Magog, God describes how their attacks will be repelled (Ezekiel 39:1-16). The army of Gog and Magog includes people from the nations of "Gomer, Tubal, Meshech, and the house of Togarmah from the North", all of whom are mentioned as descendants of Japheth in Genesis 10. Gog and Magog It is dangerous to assume that Gog and Magog are actual nations. Eusebius – Gog is the Roman Empire. Ambrose – Gog is the Germanic Goths. Augustine – This is a term used throughout the ages for those who are bent on evil and make allegiances for that purpose. Gog and Magog are all peoples opposed to the Church in Revelation. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 20:7-10. Secular powers unite against the church: The Word and the faith. In Ezekiel, the term (Gog and Magog) is used to describe an unknown people from the West. They represent earthly powers opposed to the church. Gog and Magog are peoples of the earth who unite to suppress Christianity. They are consumed by fire with their true master, the devil. Their little season is cut short. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 1260 days Gospel is spread in spite of persecution. 1,000 years Satan’s little season 3 ½ days through secular Agents – Gog and Magog VISION 7: Victory over Satan 11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. WHAT’S THE FIRST DEATH AGAIN??? At the passing away of the present heaven and earth, all the dead are raised and immediately judged. The Book of Life will be present. Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." 6 He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 7 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars-- their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." VISION 7: Victory over Satan 9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb." 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 11 It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. 12 It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 13 There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. 14 The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 21:1-14. As the old heavens and earth disappear, a new heavens and earth appears before the saints. A glorious city descends upon the new world. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 21:15-21. The city is colossal. The outer wall is 1,380 miles long and high on each side. The walls are 200 feet thick! The wall is made of jasper – a clear quartz that is traditionally yellow or dark red. The wall is separate from the city itself. Keep in mind, this is Revelation Everything has a SYMBOLIC truth and an ACTUAL truth. Numbers have a ALLEGORICAL truth. The city is great, huge, and perfect, but I wouldn’t expect it to look like a box. VISION 7: Victory over Satan The city itself is made of “a shining clear glass that shines golden light.” It defies earthly description. The foundations of the city surpass understanding. It might remind us of the brilliant colors of a rainbow. Red A marbled whitish brown. Green. Translucent. Blue Possibly a rich redish yellow. VISION 7: Victory over Satan 22:1-6. There is no temple in the city. Why? Jesus is the dwelling of God with man. If the tabernacles or temples were to show how to fellowship with Christ (God with us) then they are fulfilled. Jesus the Ultimate Dwelling Bronze sea. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, Zion is the mountain base upon which the New Jerusalem dwells. Zion Isaiah 35:10 The ransomed of the LORD will be restored. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee from them.
