Need: Service-Learning
Service-learning combines service
objectives and learning objectives with
the intent that the activity change both
the recipient and the provider of the
service.
 This change is accomplished through
structured service opportunities that
link service to self-reflection and selfdiscovery.
 Participants ultimately acquire values,
skills, and knowledge.


establishing a college-wide credit receipt
procedure and supportive program.
 House the college-wide program within the
Office of Student Services or the
Undergraduate Student Government.
 Create and fund a stipend receipt procedure
to subsidize service-learning activities
Timetable:
Spring 2008: Identified interested
students, educators, and community
groups.
 Fall 2008: Execute credit-bearing
demonstration program; Target
administrators and department chairs.
 Spring 2008: Institutionalize creditbearing program; Apply for funding.
 Fall 2009: Execute credit-bearing and
stipend-bearing programs.

