Scientific/Technical Merit and Feasibility 2. Experience, Qualifications and Facilities 3. Effectiveness of the Proposed Work Plan 4. Commercial Potential Selection Statistics • SBIR: • 2,695 proposals were received from 1,099 firms located in 48 states and DC • 939 proposals recommended • 310 selections were made (12%) • STTR: •179 proposals were received from 157 firms located in 37 states • 97 proposals recommended • 45 selections were made (25%) • Approximately 40% of the phase 1 contracts are selected for phase 2 What’s New and Unique? • NASA manages it’s SBIR and STTR programs via the NASA SBIR Electronic Handbook (EHB) All proposals are submitted electronically Contract administration is managed via the SBIR EHB Access to the EHB is directly from the NASA SBIR website http://sbir.nasa.gov • NASA is the prime customer for SBIR and STTR developed technologies Emphasis is placed on phase 3 contracting NASA has issued many multi-million dollar Phase 3 following contracts; the largest being for $57M Website Small Business Innovation Research Small Business Technology Transfer NASA SBIR Selection History NASA has selected 6,050 Phase I proposals and 2,691 Phase II proposals since the program’s inception Small Business Innovation Research Small Business Technology Transfer NASA SBIR Recent Selections Total Proposals Received Total Awards 2004 Phase I 2,170 290 2003 Phase I 2,695 310 2003 Phase II 297 129 Prog Yr/Phase Small Business Innovation Research Small Business Technology Transfer NASA STTR Selection History NASA has selected 333 Phase I proposals, and 104 Phase-II proposals since the program’s inception Small Business Innovation Research Small Business Technology Transfer NASA STTR Recent Selections Total Proposals Received Total Awards 2004 Phase I 2,170 290 2003 Phase I 2,695 310 Prog Yr/Phase 2003 Phase II To Be Awarded March 29, 2005 Small Business Innovation Research Small Business Technology Transfer NASA SBIR/STTR Commercial Success Stories NASA currently has 517 documented SBIR/STTR commercial success stories http://sbir.nasa.gov/SBIR/success.htm
