What is a

Weekly World Watch

?

The idea is simple. It is to look at current events and compare them to events spoken of in the Bible. .

I hope to build up a picture of God ’ s hand working in the affairs of this world. God is bringing about a day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle. At that time God will send His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, back to this earth. Jesus will then establish God ’ s kingdom on earth. This kingdom will last for ever. This is our hope and the reason we watch.

The following six themes will appear repeatedly in WWW:

• Israel: The continuing conflict in the Middle East and focus on Jerusalem.

• Europe: Its developing union, both political and religious.

• Russia: Its return to anti-Western ways as Bible prophecy

Each WWW looks at a few key developments that have happened during the past week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Biblical point of view.

Russia stages massive WW2 parade

EVENT

Russia is staging its biggest military parade, marking 70 years of victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two. Thousands of troops are marching on Red Square in Moscow, and new armour being displayed for the first time. More than 20 heads of states are in Moscow, but many world leaders are boycotting the event because of Russia's role in the Ukraine crisis. As the event began, President Vladimir Putin said international co-operation had been put at risk in recent years. In his speech, President Putin paid tribute to the sacrifices of Soviet troops during World War Two. He also thanked "the people of Great Britain, France and the United States for their contribution to victory ”. But he added: "In recent decades the basic principles of international co operation have been ignored ever more frequently. We see how a military-bloc mentality is gaining momentum.

” The remarks echo previous complaints by Mr Putin about what he says are efforts by the US and its Nato allies to encircle Russia militarily.

COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE

The enormous military parade underway right now appears more like a show of force rather than an anniversary marking the end of WWII. 16,500 troops are taking part, with 194 armoured vehicles and 143 aircraft! A patriotic mood has gripped Russia as Europe and Russia remember the 70 th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany.

It is 70 years since the world has been at war….and yet as Putin says a military bloc mentality is gaining momentum again. We are closer to WWIII than at anytime since WWII ended. Perhaps we are on the very brink of the final conflict? Seventy years of course is a significant time period. Seven symbolises completion. Babylon was punished 70 years later following its destruction of Jerusalem. Perhaps latter day Babylon [Europe] will be punished 70 years after its massacre of the Jews…?

And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD,

How Putin's military firepower compares to the West

EVENT Fifteen years after Vladimir Putin first walked into the Kremlin, Russia any other country on the planet, and the world retains much of the brute force associated with a former superpower.

But it has also rapidly modernised, spending millions on rearmament and retraining programmes aimed at professionalising the lumbering, conscript-reliant force it ’s new model army a year ago, when “little green men” with gleaming new uniforms and weapons annexed Crimea in a bloodless but extremely efficient operation. Last year Russia spent an estimated 3.247 trillion rubles (£42.6 billion) on defence.

America is the largest military force in the world by some margin BUT America … unlike Russia it has military commitments around the globe. From South Korea to the Middle East to Europe, America is thinly stretched. Russia however has hardly any of these commitments and of course from a Middle East point of view is able to project huge amounts of force if it wanted to with relative ease. America would never be able to match a possible 2.3 million strong army as it swooped down into Israel. Even if all ’s tanks were placed in the way of Russia they would still be overwhelmed… Russia has 15,398 tanks to America ’s 8,848. Britain has just 407! Russia has 5,972 self propelled artillery units. America has 1,934. Britain..89. The Bible says Russia will come like a storm, like a cloud covering the land. It talks about Russian troops desolating the land as they come down like locusts.

Britain and Nato launch biggest war games on Russia's doorstep as tensions grow

Britain and Nato have launched their biggest war games on Russia's doorstep amid growing tensions over Vladimir Putin's military aggression. The largest ever Nato anti submarine exercise, including the Royal Navy, is under way off the coast of Norway just weeks after reports of Russian submarines encroaching in to foreign waters.

At the same time British troops are taking part in the biggest military exercise seen in Estonia since the Baltic nation regained its independence more than two decades ago.

The war games come as tensions grow with Russia over Ukraine crisis and fears that the Baltic nations could be next in President Putin ’s sights. The commander of the Nato manoeuvres said recent incidents by the Russian military were a “cause of concern” and added “relevance to the exercise”. At least 18 ships and submarines are taking part in Operation Dynamic Mongoose which involves 10 Nato members and Sweden.

Europe can of course see what is coming and is desperately trying to show Russia they are a match as they put on their own biggest war games. But while Russia has been building up its forces, Europe has reduced theirs. As the headline says the tension is growing. Last month, Latvia said it had detected a Russian submarine near its water and last week Finland fired depth charges at an unidentified submarine along its coast.

Russian aircraft have also repeatedly approached and violated Nordic and Baltic airspace in recent months, challenging air defences and triggering allied responses.

The division between East and West legs of the ancient Roman Empire continue to exist as the Bible said they would. The legs never come together they remain divided. The east became the military half while the west embraced democracy.

And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon [Russia], and out of the mouth of the beast [Europe], and out of the mouth of the false prophet. Obama to back Palestinian state at Security Council

Debkafile reports exclusively from Washington: US President Barack Obama did not wait for Binyamin Netanyahu to finish building his new government coalition by its deadline at midnight Wednesday, May 6, before going into action to pay him back for forming a right-wing cabinet minus any moderate figure for resuming negotiations with the Palestinians. Again we put a bit of a caveat on this report from Debkafile as this is not being reported elsewhere – yet. But if true we are getting an insight to movements behind the scenes as Obama looks to punish the new Israeli government formed this week under Netanyahu. To make a coalition deal before the deadline expired, Netanyahu had to concede more power to the right-wing Jewish Home party. The faction is one of the strongest proponents of settlement-building and annexing parts of the West Bank. The new Israeli government is seen as a right wing religious government that would never concede land and enable the Palestinians to have a state. Therefore America could well be moving against Israel to force their hand to make this happen. The Bible says the land will be divided. It also says Israel will be alone in the world and totally friendless. We can see how this is coming about. Trouble is coming on Israel.

Saudi Arabia used to bark – now it bites

In the 30 years since Britain first negotiated the al-Yamamah arms deal with Saudi Arabia, the general assumption has been that this country was by far the main beneficiary of the multi-billion-pound agreement. Once called about selling arms to one of the world “the biggest British sale ever of anything to anyone". The complex negotiations committed Britain to equip the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) with more than 100 Tornado fighter aircraft, as well as 50 Hawk trainers. And any qualms politicians and businessmen alike may have entertained ’s most conservative regimes were easily overcome by the belief that there was little prospect of the Saudis ever using their fleet of sophisticated warplanes in anger. But now, thanks to the recent escalation in the conflict in neighbouring Yemen, the traditional assumption that Saudi Arabia ’s multi billion-pound defence procurement programme was simply an expensive insurance policy to deter potential aggressors, such as Iran, has been turned on its head.

COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE

2500 years ago the Bible clearly linked Britain with Saudi Arabia. It did so in Ezekiel 38 which speaks of an opposing force to the Russian force that invades Israel. The opposing force is Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish. Sheba and Dedan is modern Saudi Arabia and Tarshish is Britain. They are not part of the Russia invasion but do question what Russia is doing. In Daniel 11:40 to the end of the chapter this UK/UK/Saudi power bloc is referred to as the king of the south. Why? Because they are based SOUTH of Israel, whereas Russia is based NORTH of Israel and hence is called the king of the north. Iran is also mentioned being on the side of Russia in Ezekiel 38. Saudi Arabia v Iran therefore is part of the build-up to the final conflict.. Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

Record breaking numbers of people displaced because of war and violence

War and violence displaced a record-breaking 38 million people within their home countries in 2014 – a figure equivalent to the total population of London, New York and Beijing combined. Sixty per cent came from just five countries: Iraq, South Sudan, Syria, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria. All have been wracked by war or the metastasising effects of jihadist violence. The figures were released on Wednesday, as part of a new report by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). Jan Egeland, the organisation's secretary general, said the displacement was the worst in a generation.

"Global diplomats, UN resolutions, peace talks and ceasefire agreements have lost the battle against ruthless armed men who are driven by political or religious interests rather than human imperatives," said Mr Egeland.

COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE

The amount of human displacement due to war and violence in 2014 (and continuing into 2015) is shocking… 40% of the entire nation of Syria has been uprooted and caused huge outflows across the Middle East. The United Nations has officially registered almost 4 million refugees outside of Syria's borders. A further 2.2 million people are fleeing from areas that fell under Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) control. And for the first time in more than a decade, Europe also witnessed massive enforced displacement, this time caused by the war in Ukraine. At least 646,500 people fled their homes, the report said. Jesus said there would be a time when “nation would be against nation and kingdom against kingdom.

” It’s not a great translation. “Nation” is the word for multitudes of people. “Kingdom” is a nation. Jesus is saying there will be revolutions (people against people) leading to war (nation against nation).

but the end is not by and by. Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
