Local History
Historian Steven Fry once said, “The future’s in
the past.” How can we understand our present
or glimpse our future if we cannot understand
our past? How can we know who we are if we
don't know who we were? This module will focus
on the history of Elko and Elko County including
a guided walking tour of the historical building
and places in Elko with focus on what has made
this area what it is today.

Education & the Community
Few investments have more potential than
child’s education. EALI will focus on the
opportunities and challenges of educating
our future leaders. This hands-on module
will allow the participant to meet students
and hear directly from local educators and
natural resource administrators.

Communications & the Media
Understanding the impact of mass
communications on individuals, communities
and cultures of Elko County is a vital skill for
community leaders. Experience hands on
knowledge of the local press including radio, TV
and print media. The latest in social media will
be explored. Students will be expected to
deliver a press release, learn what an interview
is like, be able to represent your organization to
the media and run effective meetings.

Role of Local Government
The role of local government is to act for the group,
doing those things the group cannot do on its own:
EALI participants will delve into the world of our
local and county government and learn how
government can work for us as leaders and
citizens. We will have hands on learning with city
and county officials coupled with a class
assignment designed to foster better understanding
of the processes and challenges faced by
organizations and leaders working with our local
government.

Human Services & Healthcare
Providing essential human services and
healthcare in Elko County can be
challenging. You will experience, first hand,
local agencies that deliver vital services to
our underprivileged citizens and meet some
of our local health care providers for an
interactive discussion on what it takes to
provide these services to our area.

Understanding local culture and arts is
paramount to being and becoming an
astute and learned member of any
community. This module will focus on the
local opportunities to experience the Arts
and to learn about the local Cultures that
make up our community.

regional leaders involved in the system will
be some of the highlights of this module.
