Law School Educational Technology Specialist: What is it? Survey: • 410 Visited the survey • 110 Completed Responses • 68 individual schools responded • This analysis is based on completed responses only Educational Technology Support Position • 80% have, at least, part-time support 17% 24% 59% Full Time Part-Time None • Staff spends 12 – 20 hours/wk assisting faculty • A few spend far more or far less, demand coming in waves Job Descriptions • Majority felt the job descriptions are appropriate for work being done • Newer positions will be re-evaluated • “Other Duties As Assigned” Positive/Negative Feedback? • Faculty is always very positive about technology help received • Positive. It was a huge hole in our staffing and faculty wish that they could have even more personal assistance with projects. • In general, the faculty and administration appreciated the support services provided by the two FT educational technology positions… • Faculty members and administrators appreciate the individualized attention and support. • The problem is that the person has many other duties (reference, teaching) and faculty would like more help but Dean doesn't want to add other librarian to make current ET job exclusive. • The faculty really like having someone focused on their technology needs. They often point me out when showing faculty candidates around. How Long has this Position Existed? Most feel it is dependent on the person as well. Collaboration with Central IT Is there collaboration with Central IT Dept.? Does it work well? 14% 17% 86% 83% Yes No Yes No Does Collaboration Work Well? • Yes, but there does seem to be occasional "territorial" issues. • Systems & faculty support have different values & priorities • Ed Tech person attends central IT meetings, we have had various issues that required collaboration and some worked better than others. Generally a good relationship. • The person works in the IT department. • It is a struggle but we do fairly well now. • Depends on the person and circumstance ... I don't have a yes / no response. • Generally it only involves classroom network issues and streaming live video. • We would collaborate, if IT would give us the time of day. Lol Top Ed.
